Responsibilities
Role Purpose
The Trade Marketing Executive / Assistant Manager is responsible for translating brand and commercial strategies into effective channel and retail strategies that drive distribution, visibility, shopper conversion and sell-through.
The role acts as the key bridge between Brand Marketing, Sales and Retail Execution, developing trade programs and retail standards while managing merchandisers to ensure consistent execution across key accounts and retail channels.
The role is expected to combine commercial analysis, shopper understanding, trade planning and execution management to improve the productivity of Petour's investment in retail.
Key Responsibilities
1. Trade & Channel Strategy
· Develop trade marketing strategies by channel, including key accounts, pet specialty chains, independent pet stores and modern trade.
· Translate brand priorities into channel-specific activation plans.
· Identify opportunities to improve distribution, visibility, penetration and sell-through.
· Develop channel strategies based on shopper behaviour, retailer dynamics and competitive landscape.
· Recommend priority accounts, SKUs and investment areas based on commercial potential.
· Support annual and quarterly commercial planning with Sales and Brand teams.
2. Trade Marketing Calendar & Activation Planning
· Develop and manage the annual and quarterly trade marketing calendar.
· Plan retail campaigns, seasonal promotions, product launches and shopper activations.
· Develop appropriate mechanics including bundles, GWP, PWP, sampling, price promotions and retailer-exclusive programs.
· Ensure trade activities support clear commercial objectives rather than running promotions purely for visibility.
· Coordinate timelines, materials, stock requirements and execution plans across Sales, Brand and Supply Chain.
· Conduct post-campaign reviews and recommend improvements for future activities.
3. Key Account & Retail Activation
Work closely with Sales to develop activation plans for strategic retail accounts.
Responsibilities include:
· Developing account-specific promotional plans.
· Planning new product launch support.
· Recommending secondary display and visibility opportunities.
· Evaluating gondola, end-cap, counter and other paid display opportunities.
· Developing retailer-specific shopper programs.
· Supporting Sales in trade presentations and commercial proposals.
· Assessing whether retailer marketing opportunities provide sufficient commercial return.
4. Merchandising Strategy & Standards
Develop and maintain merchandising standards across brands and channels.
This includes:
· Planogram principles.
· Shelf hierarchy.
· Brand blocking.
· SKU prioritisation.
· Eye-level strategy.
· Share-of-shelf targets.
· Secondary display standards.
· POSM guidelines.
· Promotional display standards.
Ensure merchandising standards reflect brand positioning as well as commercial priorities.
5. Merchandiser Management
Lead and monitor the merchandiser team responsible for field execution.
· Develop outlet coverage and visitation plans.
· Set clear execution priorities and monthly objectives.
· Provide merchandising guidelines and campaign briefs.
· Review field reports, photographs and execution compliance.
· Track POSM installation, displays, availability and promotion implementation.
· Identify recurring execution gaps and develop corrective actions.
· Coach merchandisers on merchandising principles and retail observation.
· Ensure field information collected is commercially useful and actionable.
The Trade Marketing role is responsible for setting the standard, monitoring execution and driving improvement, rather than personally performing routine merchandising work.
6. Trade Investment & Budget Management
· Manage trade marketing and activation budgets.
· Evaluate retailer requests for listing fees, display fees, promotional support and other trade investments.
· Assess expected commercial returns before recommending investment.
· Track spending against approved budgets.
· Measure effectiveness of trade activities using sales uplift, sell-through, incremental revenue and other relevant KPIs.
· Recommend reallocating investment toward higher-performing accounts and activities.
7. Commercial & Sell-Through Analysis
Analyse retail performance to identify opportunities and risks.
Key areas include:
· Sell-in vs sell-out.
· Sales by chain/account.
· Sales by brand and SKU.
· Distribution and assortment.
· Promotion performance.
· SKU productivity.
· Fast/slow-moving products.
· Out-of-stock trends.
· Retailer inventory health.
· New product performance.
Translate data into recommendations for Sales, Brand, Supply Chain and Management.
8. Shopper & Competitor Intelligence
Build understanding of how shoppers behave across different retail environments.
· Monitor competitor pricing, promotions, assortment and visibility.
· Track competitor launches and trade activities.
· Understand shopper decision drivers within the pet food category.
· Identify changes in category, retailer and shopper behaviour.
· Conduct regular market visits to validate field execution and gather market intelligence.
· Translate observations into recommendations rather than simply reporting findings.
9. New Product Launch & Distribution Support
Work cross-functionally on new product launches.
· Develop trade launch plans.
· Recommend channel and account priorities.
· Define launch assortment and hero SKUs.
· Develop launch displays, POSM and activation mechanics.
· Coordinate launch readiness with Sales, Brand and Supply Chain.
· Monitor initial distribution, availability and sell-through.
· Conduct post-launch reviews and recommend corrective actions.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Sales
· Develop account and channel plans.
· Identify distribution and assortment opportunities.
· Support key account negotiations with trade programs and commercial analysis.
Brand Marketing
· Translate consumer campaigns into effective retail activation.
· Ensure trade activities remain consistent with brand positioning.
· Provide shopper and retailer feedback to Brand teams.
Supply Chain
· Align campaign and launch forecasts.
· Highlight demand changes driven by trade activities.
· Identify inventory risks related to promotions and launches.
Management
· Provide regular updates on channel performance, trade investment, competitive developments and major commercial opportunities.

REQUIREMENT
· Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, Commerce or related discipline.
· 3–5 years of Trade Marketing / Shopper Marketing / Channel Marketing experience, preferably within FMCG, pet care, consumer goods or retail.
· Experience managing merchandisers or field execution teams.
· Strong commercial and analytical capability.
· Good understanding of retail economics, promotions and shopper behaviour.
· Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
· Comfortable analysing sell-in, sell-out and SKU-level data.
· Able to develop trade plans and translate strategy into clear execution guidelines.
· Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
· Comfortable working closely with Sales, Brand, Supply Chain and retail partners.
· Able to balance brand objectives with commercial realities.
Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM3,500.00 per month
