Job Description: Mechanical & Electrical Project Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Project Engineer to plan, coordinate, and execute M&E works across our projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical and electrical installations are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate, and supervise mechanical and electrical works from design through commissioning and handover

- Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical power, lighting, fire protection, and control systems

- Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of M&E systems

- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for M&E scopes

- Conduct site inspections and quality control checks to ensure work meets specifications, codes, and safety standards

- Identify and resolve technical issues and design conflicts during construction

- Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, and technical submittals

- Monitor material procurement, equipment delivery, and installation progress

- Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, or local equivalents)

- Support commissioning, testing, and handover activities, including documentation (O&M manuals, as-built drawings, test reports)

- Maintain accurate project documentation and provide regular progress reports to management

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution

- A master's degree or postgraduate qualification in project management or engineering is an advantage

Professional Registration (Malaysia):

• Professional Engineer (PE) or Graduate Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)
• Corporate Member (MIEM) or Graduate Member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) — preferred
• Chargeman/Wireman certification from Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) — an advantage for electrical works
• Competent Person certification recognized by JKKP (DOSH) — e.g., Competent Person for pressure equipment or electrical — an advantage

Work Experience:

- Minimum [3–5] years of hands-on experience in M&E project engineering

- Demonstrated experience managing M&E scopes on [construction/building services/industrial] projects from design through commissioning

- Experience working with main contractors, consultants, and subcontractors

- Familiarity with contract administration is a plus

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

- In-depth understanding of mechanical systems: HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and gas systems

- In-depth understanding of electrical systems: power distribution, switchgear, transformers, lighting, ELV systems, fire alarm, and BMS

- Ability to read, interpret, and review technical drawings and specifications

- Proficiency in design/ drafting software: AutoCAD, Revit MEP (preferred), Navisworks

- Working knowledge of project management and scheduling tools: MS Project, Primavera P6

- Understanding of applicable codes and standards (IEC, NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, or local equivalents)

- Strong grasp of testing, commissioning, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes

Soft Skills:

- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail

- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously

- Leadership qualities with the ability to coordinate and motivate site teams

- Strong report writing and documentation skills

Additional Requirements:

- Ability to work on-site and travel to project locations as required

- Valid driver's license [if applicable]

- Fluency in [English]; additional languages are an advantage
