Job Summary
The Chemist Engineer will be responsible for supporting chemical-related production processes, product development, laboratory testing and quality control of Ametalin's building membrane and insulation products. The role involves working closely with the Production, Quality, Engineering and R&D teams to ensure products consistently meet required performance, quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, formulate and improve chemical formulations, coatings, adhesives, laminates and related materials used in insulation and building membrane products.
- Conduct laboratory testing and evaluation of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products.
- Monitor and control chemical parameters to ensure product consistency and quality.
- Perform chemical analysis, testing and troubleshooting when products do not meet specifications.
- Support new product development, product improvement and process optimisation.
- Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to investigate manufacturing issues and identify root causes.
- Conduct trials and experiments for new raw materials, formulations and manufacturing processes.
- Evaluate the compatibility and performance of raw materials, adhesives, coatings, polymers and other chemical components.
- Prepare and maintain laboratory records, test reports, technical documentation and product specifications.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining quality standards and testing procedures.
- Ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of chemicals in accordance with safety requirements.
- Monitor chemical usage and assist in reducing material wastage and production costs.
- Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to chemical or product quality issues.
- Assist with product testing related to thermal performance, moisture/vapour control, adhesion, durability and fire-related requirements, where applicable to the product. Ametalin's products are designed around thermal comfort, moisture management, energy efficiency and fire performance.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding raw material specifications, technical information and quality issues.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and used safely.
- Comply with company SOPs, Quality Management System, EHS requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Perform other duties related to R&D, Quality and production improvement as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field.
- Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; candidates with 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, chemical, polymer, adhesive, coating, plastic or insulation industries will have an advantage.
- Good knowledge of chemical testing, laboratory procedures and material analysis.
- Understanding of polymers, adhesives, coatings, laminating processes or composite materials is an advantage.
- Familiar with laboratory equipment and basic analytical techniques.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Able to conduct experiments, analyse results and prepare technical reports.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to work in a manufacturing environment and support production trials when required.
- Good knowledge of MS Office / Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
