Foundry Operation & Production Manager (Steel & Iron Casting | Heavy Steel & Iron Industry) - Multinational Company
ROLE PURPOSE & CONTRIBUTION
Accountable for ensuring products satisfy customer requirements, specifications and deliver expectations through leadership. This position is accountable for work being undertaken in a safe, cost-effective manner to achieve Key Performance Indicators for Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost within Company’s policy and procedural framework. It ensures customer focused, continuous activities related to optimizing resource (personnel and materials) planning and processing of products are implemented.
ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety, Sustainability & Quality (Ongoing)
Accountable for creating and maintaining a proactive safety culture and sustainable environment. Key tasks include:
- Actively demonstrates safety is your number one priority during interactions and communications
- Never walk past an unsafe situation – act on it
- Role model for a safer and healthier approach to productive work and hold others accountable for unsafe behaviours
- Ensure full implementation of safety and sustainability systems, Code of Practice, standards and procedures in own team and work area
- Induct and appropriately train all production and dispatch personnel in all relevant procedures and processes
- Ensure safety, sustainability communications and alerts done promptly with appropriate controls put in place
- Monitor area to ensure incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions are completed on time
- Conduct regular safety interactions and audits to ensure safety systems are operating as intended in the area
- Lead site / area safety and sustainability improvement projects
Functional Role Responsibilities
- Lead production and dispatch operations personnel at site to meet manufacturing and quality standards that achieve customer promise of price and time as well as the manufacturing objectives
- To ensure orders are confirmed accurately and liaise with the sales team on agreed delivery dates as and when required
- To manage working capital and raw materials at an agreed level
- To ensure correct cost management procedures are adhered to always
- To liaise with maintenance to highlight any concerns relating to preventive maintenance schedule
- Reports on production and dispatch performance on daily, weekly and monthly frequency to demonstrate customer and manufacturing objectives are being met
Work Planning & Scheduling
Ensure you and your team comply with all requirements.
Key tasks include:
- Establish medium term (up to one year) operational work plans for the area and use them as a base to allocate resources and schedule work priorities and accountability across the various functions and activities
- Oversee production plans for each area daily and as required
- Operational performance review of the area (in terms of financial outcomes/drivers, operational efficiency, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements such as safety and the environment, employee relations, workforce competence etc.) and delegation of improvement action around procedures and work instructions
- Recommend resource requirements to meet existing or new work plans or objectives. Scope, prioritize, plan, execute and monitor improvement projects for unit
- Develop and deliver plans and processes to meet future workforce needs for the unit (includes profiling near-to-midterm labor demand, training plans, roster optimization etc.)
People & Organisation
Accountable for leading and developing effective production and despatch teams so that they achieve plans, targets and continue to improve performance over time. Key tasks include:
- Demonstrate a visible commitment to our values and positive working behaviors through personal example
- As a member of the Site Lead Team, visibly contribute to site leadership, working collaboratively with managers and peers to develop and deliver an effective site culture, strategy, mid-term plan, annual plan, performance targets and budget
- Implement work and roles required for the site to deliver against budget/plan and to align with the company's organizational model and standards
- Build and leave the department to achieve high output with high engagement
- Ensure that teams and individuals' work is safe, authorized, productive and measurable
- Develop people- build capability/skills to support future growth/plans. Identify areas for team and individual development and provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback
- Contribute to overall talent development and assessment for the site, assess and develop talent (Manager Once Remove role)
- Foster a work environment and culture with a strong focus on employee engagement, growing capability and reward for operational excellence, process improvement and responsiveness to change
- Translate business strategic context and objectives to operational performance expectation and priorities for unit and provide continuous feedback
- Define and communicate tasks and performance expectations for direct reports, monitor performance against these standards and act where appropriate (including adjusting remuneration, performance counseling, initiating removal from the role etc.)
- Establish expectations and monitor execution for the deployment of goal setting and performance management within the unit
- Coach direct reports on the supervision skills as well as change management associated with new procedures and work instructions
- Work with direct reports to formulate and implement individual development plans for improved performance
- Implement workforce agreements to meet site objectives with support from the People & Culture team
- Engage in discussions with the focus on talent identification and career development
- Design unit and subunit structures and define roles for dire ct reports. Guide and sanction role definitions for subordinates-once-removed
- Plan and monitor training and development of sub-unit teams
- Develop networks within and outside the company ensuring success of the business
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & CAPABILITIES
Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor's in engineering. Other engineering disciplines may be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Project as a minimum)
Experience
- More than 5 years' experience leading operations division, in a heavy industry set up, preferably in steel industry.
- More than 8 years' experience in managing a large and diverse workforce which includes cross functional team alignment, team development and engagement, to meet all deliverables and satisfy customer expectations.
- A solid foundation for technical understanding and problem-solving.
- Familiar with standards requirements e.g. ISO9001 and ISO1400, and have experience managing deliverables, including audits.
