About the role:

The role is responsible for the identification and pursuit of opportunities to improve EBITDA performance across Malaysia, with a primary focus on Sales and Gross Profit levers. Focus will be on offer improvements and efficiencies, utilizing analytical techniques supported by the APAC Analytics team and benchmarking to drive data-driven solutions.

In addition the Manager will need to manage the brand portfolio and ensure compliance to brand and marketing activities. 

The Manager will ensure the marketing team will generate, test, and implement initiatives covering sales, marketing and branding activities. This role is responsible for developing and implementing commercial and strategic relationships with organizations in accordance with company's overarching objective, goals and strategies.  He/ She will ensure effective governance of the relationship and maximize long-term value for the company, its partners and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Financial Performance

  • Strategic planning for Malaysia in coordination with the GM and APAC Head of Commercial
  • Work with the team to drive improvement in profitability
  • Negotiate with existing and potential new vendors and suppliers in order to secure more marketing support and income for products and services across the region
  • Define marketing recommendations or strategies that support business goals, in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders for the site and region
  • Assist the GM and APAC Head of Commercial to develop and implement marketing and influence purchasing strategies and policies by undertaking market research on considerable number of potential suppliers that review criteria such as terms, reliability, and availability of the required goods, delivery times and support structures.
  • Establish and maintain tenders and contracts with top suppliers which benefit and protect SSP’s interests.
  • Franchise brand assessments to ensure compliance to brand standards.

Analysis and Report

  • Monitor, review and implement pricing architecture across the region, with reference to client and brand restrictions
  • Monitor and manage gross margin across the region, looking to mitigate cost price increases and re-engineering products along with the Purchasing Manager
  • Review all promotions and discounts, ensuring their financial viability


  • Manage forecasting and budgeting process ensuring adherence to deadlines from management
  • Ensure budgets are adhered to with all adverse variance closely monitored and within the budget

Commercial Marketing

  • Execute and drive implementation and delivery of commercial activities throughout Malaysia
  • Lead and manage the team to plan, direct and coordinate all the activities that contribute to company profitability and customer satisfaction by executing activities in a timely manner
  • Directs the process which includes the planning of activity, POS set up, design and execution of in store collateral, whilst influencing inventory control and training to operations.


  • Responsible for implementing the marketing strategy to build brand awareness and drive sales
  • Manage and review the branding concepts for own brands including key visuals, design, advertising and visual merchandising with the APAC Design team
  • Manage branding and marketing strategy for key franchise brands across the region to ensure consistency to maximize revenue and profit
  • Review the branding and marketing collaborations with all major suppliers across all territories, supporting the tender process and maximize the financial benefit to SSP, through supplier income and visibility support along with the Purchasing Manager
  • Set up and manage PR system to maximize exposure of brands.

Profit & Loss

  • Provides assistance to the GM and APAC Head of Commercial in developing and implementing profitability initiatives
  • Ensure all profit opportunities are regularly identified, quantified and responded to.


  • Create a systematic, process-driven approach to partner outreach and relationship management.
  • Identify and source high quality partnership opportunities through various channels and execute exciting partnership solutions
  • Research partners, identify key players and generate interest.
  • Collaborate with senior management and other marketing teammates to align our internal goals with new and existing partner relationships.
  • Develop and maintain broad and deep external partner relations with Airlines, Banks, Travel Agencies, Ticket Aggregators etc.
  • Negotiate attractive partnership deals and ensure mutually beneficial partnership terms that are in line with business objectives and strategy.
  • Communicate to partner about the vision, strategies and capabilities of the alliance.
  • Keep the partner updated of the latest developments of their alliance account & provide timely feedback to the partners as required.
  • Develop and execute attainable strategy plans in accordance to the market need & build multi-level relationships with partners.
  • Maintain constant engagement with partners to understand & manage their propositions, markets, business challenges and customer opportunities.
  • Develop and manage alliance with relevant government agencies.
  • Review and support government contracts and analyze financial justification for alliance.
  • Manage agreements with alliance executives & ensure that all Contracts /Agreements are renewed in a timely manner.
  • Provide interpretation of contract terms and communicate contract details with management
  • Design, arrange and complete contracts to achieve program and contract objectives.
  • Evaluate relevant data & analyze company’s product performance in market and research for new trends.
  • Monitor and manage schedules and deadlines specified in the contract.
  • Maintain alliance with strategic partners and develop Sales & Marketing plans.
  • Build relationship with new alliance partners and develop new business.
  • Create and implement business plans for partners.
  • Provide business inputs and ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness in service and product
