Job Purpose

The incumbent will work with the School to ensure the efficient and effective management and delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures, undertake research activity and engage in enterprise activity, influencing leading edge practice and ensure compliance with the established laws, regulations and policies of the industry’s regulators.

Key Responsibilities & accountabilities

Student Experience

1.      Responsible for managing taught programmes and programme accreditation processes.

2.      Ensure that programme design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University.

3.      Contribute to the development of academic processes across the institution.

4.      Contribute to the development of learning and teaching strategies.

5.      Teach a range of subjects which are relevant and appropriate to qualification and experience.

6.      Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and materials which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.

7.      Oversee the monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to personal tutors and students as appropriate.

 

Pastoral care

1.      Undertake student consultancy.

2.      Oversee the monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to students as appropriate, including oversight of the needs of students with special requirements and processes pertaining to mitigating circumstances.

3.      Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and assist them in accessing University support.

 

Academic Administration

1.      Take responsibility for quality, audit and other external assessments in own areas of responsibility.

Job Competencies

1.       Depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a postgraduate qualification from a recognised university.

2.       External recognition as a practice based professional will be an added advantage.

3.       In depth understanding of own specialism.

4.       Knowledge of higher education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.

5.       Experience of quality management and enhancement in a higher education environment.

6.       Experience of managing a team and/or functions in a busy environment with conflicting priorities.

7.       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

8.       Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups.

9.       Able to demonstrate independent and self-managing work styles.

10.   Able to plan and prioritise workload.

11.   Demonstrates strong student-centric approach to ways of working and commitment to high quality standards.
