Position Objective:
The Manager, Cloud Operations will provide day to day support to all AIA business units using AIA’s Azure public cloud platform including but not limited to incident-, change-, request- and problem management. This role focuses on leveraging azure services administration tasks and optimize cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (Senior DBA) with good expertise in Azure Cloud-based database environments and enterprise-grade Oracle and DB2 database platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for end-to-end database administration, high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, security, and cloud database operations across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities – Database Administration & Operations
- Be part of a team which provides 24x7 administration, maintenance, and support for Oracle and DB2 databases in Azure Cloud and hybrid environments.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database software with minimal downtime.
- Manage Oracle databases hosted on managed/cloud services (including Oracle RDS-style managed offerings) and self-managed Oracle deployments on Azure.
- Perform routine database tasks including backups, restores, capacity planning, and health checks.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design, implement, and manage Oracle Data Guard configurations (physical and logical standby).
- Ensure database high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) readiness aligned with SLAs.
- Conduct regular DR drills, failover testing, and recovery validations.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and tune database performance using AWR, ASH, Statspack, and DB2 monitoring tools.
- Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and storage utilization.
- Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks related to CPU, memory, I/O, and network latency.
Azure Cloud & Infrastructure
- Manage and support databases running on Microsoft Azure (IaaS and PaaS-adjacent architectures).
- Collaborate with cloud, network, and security teams on Azure architecture, sizing, and cost optimization.
- Support integrations with Azure Monitor, Azure Backup, Azure Key Vault, and identity/access controls.
- Assist in database migrations from on-premise or other clouds to Azure.
Security & Compliance
- Implement database security best practices including encryption, access control, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
- Ensure databases comply with internal security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage user roles, privileges, and authentication mechanisms.
Automation & Documentation
- Automate DBA tasks using scripts (Shell, SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell).
- Maintain accurate documentation for database architecture, operational procedures, and recovery plans.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs and support teams.
Additional:
- Ensure database high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) readiness aligned with SLAs.
- Manage and administer the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, policy governance.
- Analyze existing operational standards, processes, and/or governance to identify and implement improvements.
- Develop infrastructure as code leveraging cloud native tooling to ensure automated and consistent platform deployments.
- Support cloud adoption of applications as they are being transformed and/or modernized.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to address and resolve technical escalations.
- Provide training and support to team members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues and Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and guidance.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience:
- 5+ years relevant experience in Cloud Engineering / Support role and Database Administration.
- Good expertise in Oracle Database administration (11g/12c/19c or higher).
- Good experience with DB2 database administration
- Proven experience with Oracle Data Guard & Oracle RDS in production environments.
- Hands-on experience supporting databases in Microsoft Azure Cloud environments.
- Good knowledge of backup & recovery, performance tuning, and HA/DR architecture.
- Good scripting skills (Shell, SQL, PL/SQL).
- Good understanding and proven experience in Public Cloud implementation, workload migration and operational support in a multi-site enterprise environment
- Relevant professional certifications (Azure, AWS, Ali cloud, ITIL etc)
- Practical experience of supporting Enterprise Public Cloud Services and automation
- Experience within a decentralized organization, preferably within the Group unit.
- Sound understanding of IT operating model design and best practices.
- Experience in top tier multinational corporation will be an advantage.
- Liaise with service providers to ensure that operational processes (backup, patching, provisioning, monitoring) for service follow-up and incident management.
- Understanding of Infrastructure-As-Code configuration management tooling (at least one of the following – Terraform, Ansible, Chef/Puppet)
