Company Description

Codon Genomics (CoGen) is a startup based in Cheras, Malaysia that specializes in biotechnology, bioinformatics, data science, and software engineering. Founded in 2010, we work with major plantation conglomerates and life science research institutes to uncover discoveries using genomic data. Our employees are leaders in managing and analyzing genomic data, especially Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).


Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Bioinformatician. The Bioinformatician will be responsible for interpreting and analyzing biological data derived from Next Generation Sequencing experiments. Daily tasks will include NGS data analysis, data management, and working in a team-oriented environment to support client projects, and assisting in developing new algorithms to improve our services.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • A M.Sc. or Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in analyzing genomics datasets using bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R, Perl) and experience with relevant software packages (e.g., Bioconductor, SAMtools, BWA, GATK).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis methods and data visualization techniques for genomics data.
  • Experience in managing and configuring high-performance computer infrastructure for bioinformatics analysis, including cluster computing, parallel computing, and cloud computing.
  • Familiarity with database systems, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, for efficient storage and retrieval of genomics data.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex bioinformatics issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and guiding junior team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
