Performance Marketing Strategist

This is not a "manage some ads and send a monthly report" kind of role.

Most agencies hire media buyers — people who launch campaigns, watch dashboards, and report what the numbers say. We don't. We hire strategists — people who figure out why the numbers say what they say, whether the numbers are even telling the truth, and what to do about it.

You'll own the performance and the client relationship for multiple e-commerce brands. That means you're the person in the room who knows the business well enough to challenge the data, not just present it.

Z21 (Zero to One) grows e-commerce/retail brands. Traffic → Conversion → Retention. Simple, but not easy.

We design and build on Shopify. We scale with paid ads and email. We optimize stores for conversion. We're Meta Business Partners and Shopify Plus Partners.

We work with brands like Love Bonito, Photobook, Machines, BloomThis, LUMI Beauty, FILA, L'Occitane and more.

The Work Itself:

Strategic thinking (this is the job):

  • Diagnose why a metric actually moved — not just flag that it moved. If ROAS dropped, you walk through campaign objective mix, audience saturation, creative fatigue, marketplace pricing, attribution settings, and on-site issues before recommending anything.
  • Calculate break-even ROAS by product and category. A 4.0x ROAS on a 20% margin product is losing money. You need to know that before you scale it.
  • Check whether the data is lying. If 60% of the client's revenue is offline POS or marketplace, on-site ROAS is the wrong KPI. You catch that — and reframe reporting around MER.
  • Price-check Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop every reporting cycle. If the client's product is 20% cheaper on a marketplace, that explains the poor website conversion rate better than any creative test will.
  • Deliver at least one insight per report the client didn't already know. If your report only tells them what they can see in their own dashboard, you've added zero value.

Client ownership (this is also the job):

  • Lead weekly calls. You set the agenda, you open with business context, and you bring at least one proactive idea every meeting.
  • Run quarterly business reviews that feel like a strategic advantage session, not a reporting session. By the end, the client should feel you're helping grow their business — not just running their ads.
  • Own the client relationship on WhatsApp and email. You respond within 2 business hours. You speak like an advisor, not a vendor. You catch churn signals early and act on them before it's too late.

Execution (the foundation):

  • Run paid campaigns across Meta, Google, and TikTok for medium-to-large e-commerce brands
  • Build full-funnel campaign structures and budget allocations
  • Run creative and landing page experiments with clear hypotheses
  • Use AI tools to pull data, flag anomalies, and draft observations — then add the judgment layer that makes the output actually useful

What We Look For:

  • You think in margins, not just ROAS. You understand that revenue without profitability context is a vanity metric.
  • You can explain your reasoning simply and hold your position when challenged — but you change your mind when the evidence says you should.
  • When you see a data anomaly, your instinct is to investigate, not to write "monitoring" in the report.
  • You're proactive with clients. You raise pricing problems, attribution gaps, and brand misalignment before they ask — because that's what separates an advisor from a vendor.
  • You're organized enough to manage multiple brands without dropping balls on follow-ups, meeting notes, or reporting deadlines.

Experience running paid campaigns is necessary. But analytical depth and client instinct matter more than years on the job.

If you've managed RM50–250k/month budgets before — great. If not, but you can walk us through how you'd diagnose a ROAS drop and what questions you'd ask the client — also great.
