We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and operate our database platforms, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server. The role includes ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of on-premise systems, along with supporting NoSQL databases and modern backup strategies across on-prem and cloud environments. This role requires the ability to work independently as an individual contributor.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server and other database systems across environments
- Design and manage High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions
- Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies (on-premise and cloud-integrated)
- Perform and regularly validate disaster recovery testing
- Monitor and optimize database performance (queries, indexing, execution plans)
- Plan capacity, storage, and scalability of database systems
- Apply patches, upgrades, and manage version control
- Troubleshoot production issues and support incident resolution
- Collaborate with development teams on database design and performance tuning
- Automate routine DBA tasks (maintenance, monitoring, alerting)
- Manage releases across development, test, and production environments
- Maintain operational and recovery documentation
- Participate in on-call support for critical systems
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (on-premise)
- Proven expertise in:
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery (Failover Clustering, Availability Groups, DR testing)
- Backup and recovery strategies, including on-prem and cloud-based backups
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB and Redis (administration, basic performance tuning, and troubleshooting)
- Strong SQL/T-SQL skills and query optimization
- Database monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SSMS, DMVs, Extended Events)
- Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar)
- Managing production-critical environments
Nice to Have:
- Experience with other relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Cassandra, Elasticsearch)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) for backup storage and DR scenarios
- Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD for database deployments)
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools

Salary range: RM 9,000 – RM 12,000 per month
