Job Summary:

The Quantity Surveyor (QS) will manage all financial, contractual, and commercial aspects of construction and mining infrastructure development.

Grounded in a strong civil construction background, the candidate will oversee large-scale earthworks, concrete foundations, and industrial structural setups.

This role bridges standard local construction practices with the robust demands of the mining sector, ensuring full compliance with local statutory bodies and contract structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation & Taking-Off: Prepare precise Bills of Quantities (BQ) and cost estimates for heavy engineering, industrial, massive earthworks, haul roads, and processing facility layouts.
  • Contract Administration: Draft, evaluate, and administer high-value construction contracts, utilizing standard Malaysian and international frameworks tailored for industrial use
  • Claims & Variation Orders (VO): Measure on-site progress, conduct civil measurements, evaluate subcontractor or on-house team progress claims, and handle variations, mitigation of loss, and final accounts.
  • Procurement Management: Manage the local and international tendering process in partnership with Project Managers in sourcing heavy machinery fleets/equipments, mineral drilling and crushing machineries, specialized structural materials, and subcontractors.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor commercial risks related to site logistics, material price fluctuations, and local environmental compliance guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM).
  • Professional Registration: Registered as a Provisional/Professional QS (Sr.) with BQSM and a member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) is highly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, infrastructure projects, or industrial builds (experience in quarrying, oil & gas, or mining sectors is a major advantage).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in standard quantity estimation software (e.g., Glodon, CostX, or Candy/CCS) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Key Competencies: Thorough understanding of Malaysian Standard Method of Measurement (SMM2/CESMM) and CIDB regulations. Strong local subcontractor negotiation skills.
