THE ROLE

A hands-on accounting manager overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting process improvements and system enhancements.

THE TASKS

Financial Operations

  • Oversee and participate in day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Manage banking activities, including monitoring cash balances, initiating/approving payments, and overseeing bank reconciliations
  • Manage and review payroll processing, including approval of payroll runs, ensuring accuracy of employee pay, deductions, and related journal entries
  • Lead and execute the month-end close process with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Support preparation of financial reporting packages, including variance analysis versus budget and prior periods
  • Assist with consolidated reporting across multiple entities (US, Canada, and other regions)
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Support cash flow tracking and assist in maintaining the 13-week cash flow forecast
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on audit requirements and coordinate deliverables for external auditors
  • Ensure proper recording of all accounting transactions

Process Optimization & Strategic Support

  • Support ongoing enhancements and optimization of the NetSuite ERP system
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and reduce manual effort
  • Assist in developing standardized procedures and improving reporting workflows
  • Provide financial data and analysis to support internal decision-making

Team Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals
  • Review team deliverables and provide guidance to ensure quality and deadlines are met
  • Support the establishment of clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability
  • Foster a collaborative and continuous improvement mindset within the team

Compliance & Tax

  • Coordinate with external advisors to support corporate tax and sales tax filings
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements across jurisdictions
  • Support documentation and maintenance of tax and compliance-related SOPs

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE

By Month 1

  • Gain a strong understanding of day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, cash, and close processes
  • Build relationships with the accounting team and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Participate in and support the month-end close process
  • Review current reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting outputs for accuracy and completeness
  • Become familiar with NetSuite workflows and existing processes

By Month 3

  • Take ownership of the month-end close process and ensure timelines are consistently met
  • Implement improvements to account reconciliations and review procedures
  • Strengthen oversight of daily accounting activities, including banking and transaction processing
  • Begin standardizing recurring journal entries and close schedules
  • Support ongoing audit and compliance requirements

By Month 6

  • Improve efficiency and accuracy of the close process, including reducing manual adjustments
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Establish consistent review controls across all key accounting areas (AP, AR, GL, cash)
  • Support enhancements to internal financial reporting and variance analysis
  • Assist with documentation of key accounting processes and procedures


By Month 12

  • Help achieve 15-25%automation of previously manual accounting processes
  • Establish efficient month-end close procedures with reduced timeline
  • Support any M&Ainitiatives with properaccounting treatment


THE SKILL SET

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
  • CPA designation or accounting designation equivalent to Canadian CPA
  • Experience in People Management
  • Exposure to US GAAP is highly preferred
