Job Title: Counselling Intern
Location: Johor Bahru
Duration: 3–6 months
Job Summary
The Counselling Intern will support the treatment center's mission by providing therapeutic, administrative, and program support in the care of individuals experiencing addiction and psychiatric challenges. Under supervision, the intern will gain hands-on experience in client assessment, counseling, and group facilitation while learning to apply evidence-based practices in a clinical and rehabilitation setting.
Key Responsibilities
Client Support and Assessment
- Conduct supervised intake interviews and needs assessments.
- Assist in developing counseling plans tailored to individual client goals.
- Monitor and document client progress in line with professional and ethical standards.
Therapeutic Interventions
- Co-facilitate group counseling sessions, including psychoeducation and skills-building workshops.
- Provide one-on-one counseling under the direct supervision of a licensed or certified counselor.
- Support clients in implementing coping strategies, relapse prevention plans, and emotional regulation techniques.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
- Assist in preparing reports, session summaries, and case notes.
- Support in scheduling and organizing counseling sessions, workshops, or community activities.
Research and Learning
- Participate in staff meetings and case discussions to understand multidisciplinary approaches.
- Conduct research on counseling techniques, addiction recovery, and mental health best practices.
- Attend training and workshops to enhance counseling skills and theoretical knowledge.
Program Development
- Assist in the design and implementation of new counseling programs or initiatives.
- Gather and analyze client feedback to improve program effectiveness.
Requirements
Education:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Counseling, or a related field.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathy and sensitivity towards individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Other Qualifications:
- Prior experience (volunteer or professional) in counseling, mental health, or addiction recovery is an advantage.
- Willingness to commit to the internship schedule, including possible evening or weekend shifts.
