Position Summary
The Powder Coating Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall operation and management of the powder coating workshop, ensuring stable mass production, consistent product quality, and on-time delivery. This role plays a critical part in process optimization, equipment efficiency, and cost control in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations of the powder coating workshop including production planning, capacity management, and delivery performance
- Manage manpower, equipment, and materials to ensure smooth and efficient production
- Ensure stable mass production of automotive metal components with consistent output quality
2. Process & Quality Control
- Lead and optimize automotive-grade polyester powder coating processes, including pre-treatment and curing
- Monitor and control key quality parameters such as coating thickness, adhesion, salt spray resistance, and surface appearance
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site production issues to meet OEM quality standards
3. Equipment Maintenance Management
- Oversee maintenance of electrostatic powder coating lines, curing ovens, and conveyor systems
- Implement preventive maintenance programs and manage equipment records
- Reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability and production efficiency
4. System & Compliance Management
- Implement and maintain IATF 16949 quality system within the workshop
- Drive 5S, lean manufacturing, safety practices, and environmental compliance in accordance with Malaysian regulations
- Lead and support customer audits, PPAP submissions, and production ramp-up activities
5. Team Management & Cost Optimization
- Lead workforce planning, training, and performance management for workshop teams
- Improve powder utilization rate, yield, and energy efficiency
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve cost reduction and operational excellence
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in automotive powder coating processes and production environment
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role (Workshop Manager / Production Manager)
- Experience in automotive metal parts (e.g. wiper systems, structural components) is highly preferred
- Strong hands-on experience in automatic powder coating line operation, process optimization, and equipment maintenance
- In-depth knowledge of automotive coating standards, including salt spray and adhesion testing
- Familiar with process troubleshooting and mass production stabilization
- Strong understanding of IATF 16949 and automotive quality requirements
- Proven experience handling OEM audits, quality improvement actions, and production ramp-up
- Good command of English (spoken and written) for communication with international stakeholders
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Able to work under pressure and manage new plant setup or expansion projects
Pay: RM8,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
