About the Role
Britannia is expanding! Reporting to the Associate Director, Loss Prevention – Asia, we are looking for an experienced Mariner who will assist with the development and execution of the Loss Prevention Department’s APAC strategy in support of the Loss Prevention Department’s overall strategy. He/She will also be responsible to deliver on the Loss Prevention Department’s activities worldwide and provide support to Members as well as the internal and external stakeholders. The individual should have offshore or green ship fleets experience.
Your Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include the following:
- Write and review articles and guidance to be published by the Association to raise awareness of safety issues and risk insights on a range of maritime matters.
- Conduct causal analyses of individual or grouped claims incurred by the Association’s Members to identify systemic causes, trends and areas of risk. These analyses may include:
- Reviewing claims and incident information, including relevant data and reports.
- Conducting visits to Members, including their manning and technical offices and ships, to gather evidence in support of the causal analysis.
- Attending meetings with relevant industry organisations to gather information related to the identified areas of risk.
- Preparation of formal written reports, including conclusions and formal recommendations.
- Identification of lessons learnt for sharing with Members and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and update the LPD’s Technical Enquiries Database (TED) so relevant data can be extracted that meets the requirements of the department and other stakeholders.
- Identify and assist in the development of a range of proactive Loss Prevention initiatives to effectively support the Association’s Members.
- Provide timely and accurate written and verbal maritime subject matter advice to Britannia Members and Tindall Riley colleagues, including Claims Handlers and Underwriters, in response to ad hoc enquiries.
- Support the work of the Loss Prevention assisting with the following activities:
- Preparing and presenting technical seminars/webinars for Members and their employees, including seafarers, shore-based managers and superintendents.
- Conducting office-based Management Reviews of Members and/or their appointed Managers to assess the organisational issues integral to the safe operation of their ships.
- Conducting routine visits to Members to represent the Association in a professional manner, while promoting and discussing areas of Loss Prevention activity.
About You
Knowledge/Experience
- Solid seagoing or ship‑management experience, ideally with exposure from offshore, green‑ship fleets, tugs or smaller‑tonnage operations; and experience with bulk cargo.
- Experience working ashore in an office environment, in a marine-related role.
- Practical experience of investigating and analysing marine incidents and/or claims to draw conclusions and identify lessons learnt.
- Knowledge and understanding of the role of international P&I Clubs/mutual and marine insurance claims processes
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience of producing clear and accurate written guidance and articles that are well-structured and logical, in a style appropriate to the needs of the intended audience.
- Good verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently present and explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand and appropriate for the intended audience.
- Computer literate and familiar with all MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc) with proficiency in Excel including vlookup, pivot table etc.
