Responsibilities

The Part-Time Mathematics / Computing Lecturer is responsible for teaching foundation-level courses in mathematics or computing and developing instructional materials. This role is designed for individuals who may have other professional commitments or those seeking flexible teaching opportunities. The lecturer will contribute to a positive learning environment while ensuring that students achieve course learning outcomes.

The lecturer may be assigned to teach one or more of the following subjects:

• Algebra 1
• Discrete Mathematics
• Statistics
• Fundamentals of Computer Programming
  
  

Teaching And Instruction

• Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions for assigned subjects such as Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics, and/or Computer Programming
• Prepare and deliver lessons that meet course learning objectives and programme requirements
• Develop course materials, including lesson plans, notes, assignments, and examination papers
• Integrate Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approaches into teaching and learning activities
• For computing subjects, guide students through hands-on programming exercises (e.g., Python, C, or Java)
• Maintain a flexible approach to teaching, adapting to students’ diverse learning needs
  
  

Academic Support

• Provide academic support to students during consultation hours or via online platforms
• Respond to student queries and provide guidance on coursework and assignments
• Encourage student engagement through interactive and student-centered teaching methods
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  
  

Assessment And Evaluation

• Design and grade assessments including assignments, quizzes, tests, and examinations
• Evaluate student performance in alignment with course learning outcomes (CLOs)
• Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback to support student improvement
• Ensure assessments and grading comply with institutional academic policies and quality standards
  
  

Professional Development

• Stay updated with developments in mathematics, computing, and teaching methodologies
• Participate in institutional training, workshops, and quality assurance activities where required
• Contribute to continuous improvement of teaching materials and curriculum delivery
  
  

Working Hours

• Flexible, depending on course scheduling and lecturer availability.
• Typically assigned based on teaching hours per week or per semester
  
  

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
• Master’s Degree is preferred.
  
  

Experience

• Prior teaching or training experience at diploma, college, or university level is preferred.
• Industry experience in relevant fields (especially programming or data-related roles) is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) or MQA requirements is beneficial.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain mathematical or programming concepts clearly and effectively
• Ability to deliver engaging and interactive lessons
• Proficiency in digital tools (e.g., presentation software, LMS, programming platforms where applicable)
