Job Summary
Support FEED and Engineering phases of L2–L4 network upgrades in Oil & Gas plants by designing, engineering, and integrating telecom fiber optic and network infrastructure to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead fiber optic design, engineering, and integration activities within Oil & Gas plant environments to ensure robust network infrastructure
- Define technical requirements, specifications, and design deliverables for telecom systems aligned with project goals
- Design redundant backbone network architectures (RSTP, PRP, HSR, MPLS) to enhance system reliability and failover capabilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, IT, and operations to align telecom designs with plant requirements
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for fiber and network upgrade projects
- Specify switching, routing, and firewall configurations tailored for industrial-grade environments to secure operational technology
- Develop IP addressing schemes, VLAN segmentation, and QoS policies to optimize network performance
- Create detailed fiber optic network architectures, layouts, routing plans, splicing diagrams, and termination details
- Perform link budget calculations and define OTDR testing requirements to validate fiber optic performance
- Specify cable types (single-mode/multi-mode, armored, fire-rated) compliant with IEC, IEEE, and API standards
- Ensure all designs comply with Oil & Gas industry standards, plant safety regulations, and telecom protocols
- Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation, design reports, and technical presentations for stakeholders
- Produce detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and guide drafters to ensure technical accuracy
- Implement SCADA automation systems with strong networking foundations to support operational technology
- Manage fiber optic and microwave transmission networks throughout project lifecycles from FEED to commissioning and handover
- Serve as primary technical interface with clients, vendors, and interdisciplinary teams to resolve technical queries and interface issues
- Develop and validate integrated telecom systems suitable for hazardous Oil & Gas environments, including LAN/WAN and Hotline Systems
- Interface with instrumentation, automation, and IT teams to align network requirements and ensure seamless integration
- Develop technical specifications, datasheets, and material requisitions for telecom equipment procurement
- Conduct technical reviews of vendor documents and drawings to ensure compliance and quality
- Lead design and implementation of SCADA automation networks and architect secure industrial networking solutions (TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls) supporting OT requirements
Required competencies and certifications
- Proven experience in telecom systems, fiber optics, and network infrastructure engineering for industrial projects
- Demonstrated expertise in FEED and Detailed Engineering phases for Greenfield and Brownfield Oil & Gas projects, including onshore and offshore facilities
- Strong industrial networking skills with equipment from Cisco, Hirschmann, Moxa, and Siemens
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and reviewing 2D engineering drawings and layouts
- In-depth knowledge of SCADA architectures, RTUs, PLCs, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850
- Expertise in IP networking, VLANs, and cybersecurity principles relevant to industrial control systems (ICS)
- Expert-level knowledge of fiber optic cable plant design for both OSP and ISP environments
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Experience working on telecom projects within Oil & Gas plants
- Familiarity with industry certification and compliance processes
- Exposure to automation frameworks for network verification
- Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams
Pay: $5,000.00 - $12,000.00 per month
