The General Counsel’s Organization
The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) of American Express is where great legal minds influence global business strategy. Under the general supervision of the Legal Analyst, the Coordinator-Legal Operations is responsible for the end-to-end processing of garnishments, levies, and other similar third-party legal orders and providing other administrative support as required.
Responsibilities
- Intake, processing and responding to subpoenas, garnishments, levies, asset freezes, and similar legal orders as required.
- Ensure that legal orders including subpoenas, garnishments, levies, and similar third-party legal orders are actioned timely in accordance with relevant federal and state laws.
- Prepare correspondence to an issuer of a legal request.
- Evaluate legal orders, research accounts, and identify customer or merchant accounts responsive to legal requests.
- Provide support as part of a quality assurance team to ensure colleague work is performed in accordance with Amex policies, procedures and applicable law.
- Perform quality testing inclusive of individual specialist monitoring and other quality programs as required.
- Navigate multiple systems and platforms and adapting to new technologies.
- Follow escalation criteria for third party legal orders to the supervisor when required.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of applicable federal and state laws, and policies and procedures related to the processing of legal orders.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.
- Support special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduates in law or related subjects.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduates in law or related subjects
- 0-2 years of experience in an operations team/ in-house legal department
- Articulate and fluent verbal and written English
- Sense of urgency, ability to discern critical matters and to meet deadlines
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Able to work independently and as a team player
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Meticulous with attention to detail, able to analyze and problem solve
- Able to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information from a variety of databases and information platforms
- Able to work productively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
