About the role

We are seeking a talented Unity Game Coder to join Big Watermelon Studio, a dynamic and innovative game development company based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This is a full/part-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a creative team developing engaging and immersive gaming experiences. As a Unity Game Coder, you will be responsible for writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code to bring game designs to life. This role is integral to our development pipeline and directly impacts the quality and performance of our game projects. You will work on-site in our Kota Kinabalu office, collaborating closely with designers, artists, and other developers to deliver outstanding gaming products.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop and implement game features and mechanics using the Unity engine and C# programming language

2. Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that follows industry best practices and coding standards

3. Collaborate with game designers and artists to translate design specifications into functional code

4. Debug and optimise game performance across different platforms and devices

5. Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices

6. Implement gameplay systems, user interfaces, and interactive elements based on project requirements

7. Integrate audio, animations, and visual effects into the game environment

8. Test and troubleshoot code to identify and resolve technical issues

9. Document code and maintain version control through git or similar systems

10. Collaborate with the team to meet project deadlines and deliverables

What we're looking for

1. Proficiency in C# programming and demonstrated experience developing games with Unity

2. Strong understanding of game development principles, including physics, collision detection, and gameplay mechanics

3. Experience with version control systems such as Git

4. Knowledge of object-oriented programming and software design patterns

5. Ability to optimise code and troubleshoot technical issues effectively

6. Experience with cross-platform game development for mobile, PC, or console platforms

7. Familiarity with debugging tools and performance profiling techniques

8. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

9. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

10. A portfolio or GitHub repository demonstrating previous game development projects is highly desirable

11. Experience with game engines other than Unity or knowledge of gameplay scripting frameworks is a plus
