Our client in the financial services industry is seeking a Python Backend Tech Lead to drive backend engineering initiatives while leading and mentoring a team of developers. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Strong hands-on experience in backend development using Python
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading a technology or product team
• Proven experience managing, mentoring and developing technical teams
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and system design principles
• Solid understanding of SDLC and software quality assurance practices
• Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and microservices-based systems
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Hands-on experience with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka or similar technologies
• Experience developing microservices and managing containerized applications
• Experience building WebSocket-based systems
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms
• Strong understanding of web security standards and best practices
• Experience with code optimisation and performance tuning
• Basic frontend development knowledge is an advantage
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities

Responsibilities

• Define technical specifications, technology selections and development workflows
• Lead backend development while remaining hands-on in Python coding and system implementation
• Drive technical direction and architectural decisions across backend platforms
• Present system designs and implementation strategies to senior leadership and technical stakeholders
• Lead, manage and mentor backend developers to ensure continuous growth and high performance
• Establish and maintain coding standards, development practices and engineering quality benchmarks
• Conduct code reviews, identify technical risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure backend systems meet standards for security, scalability, maintainability and reliability
• Support system performance optimisation and backend service stability
• Contribute to architectural decisions involving microservices, integrations and backend infrastructure
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges collaboratively with engineering teams
• Support continuous improvement of backend engineering processes and practices
