The Site & Design Engineer – Road Project is responsible for the planning, design coordination, and on-site execution of road construction works. The role ensures that all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, project schedules, quality standards, safety regulations, and contractual requirements. The engineer acts as the technical liaison between the design team, consultants, contractors, and project management.

• Prepare, review, and verify road design drawings and technical specifications.

• Coordinate geometric road design, pavement design, drainage, and utility layouts.

• Review shop drawings, method statements, and design submissions.

• Perform design calculations and ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes.

• Identify design conflicts and propose practical engineering solutions.

• Coordinate with consultants and authorities for design approvals.

• Assist in value engineering initiatives to improve cost and construction efficiency.

• Supervise daily construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

• Monitor site progress against the project schedule and milestones.

• Verify setting-out works, levels, alignments, and dimensions.

• Conduct regular site inspections and identify technical issues requiring corrective action.

• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants to resolve site matters.

• Ensure work quality meets project and client requirements.

• Ensure construction complies with approved specifications and quality standards.

• Review Inspection Requests (IRs), Material Approval Requests (MARs), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

• Monitor testing activities, including:

  • Soil compaction tests

  • Field density tests

  • Concrete cube tests

  • Asphalt core tests

  • Material quality tests

• Ensure corrective actions are implemented for non-conpliant work.

• Maintain quality documentation and inspection records.

• Prepare and update work schedules and progress reports.

• Monitor productivity, manpower, equipment, and material utilization.

• Identify project risks and recommend mitigation measures.

• Assist in preparing recovery plans when project delays occur.

• Support monthly progress claims and project reporting.

• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements and environmental regulations.

• Participate in toolbox meetings and site safety inspections.

• Identify unsafe conditions and stop work when necessary.

• Ensure traffic management plans and public safety measures are implemented for road works.

• Promote a strong safety culture among all site personnel.

• Maintain daily site reports, inspection records, and progress updates.

• Prepare technical reports, site instructions, RFIs (Requests for Information), and meeting minutes.

• Maintain updated as-built drawings and engineering documentation.

• Ensure proper filing and document control for all project records.

• Liaise with clients, consultants, government authorities, utility providers, and subcontractors.

• Attend project coordination and technical meetings.

• Resolve technical and construction issues in a timely manner.

• Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations to management.
