Job Description

Responsibilities

Position: Laboratory Technologist – Faculty of Computing and Engineering

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Scientific Officers in ensuring the smooth running of practical classes
  • Perform highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support coursework by ensuring laboratory materials requested, safety and protective attire and gear are ready for practical sessions
  • Ensure that the laboratories are cleared and clean at the end of practical sessions, maintaining readiness for the following practical sessions
  • Assist in upkeeping of laboratory inventories such as the consumables items, chemical, and equipment
  • Assist in chemical and electronic waste management in a safe manner, guided by good Health and safety standards
  • Assist the Scientific Officers on the maintenance, repair and calibration of laboratory equipment. Perform routine inspection, calibration, and preventive maintenance of instruments and machines
  • Assist the Scientific Officers in maintaining required documentation related to laboratory activities
  • Troubleshoot and carry out minor repairs to minimize equipment downtime
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and institutional policies
  • Provide basic technical and operational support to other functional labs when required

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma / SKM Level 3 in Mechanical/ Manufacturing/ Mechatronics Technology
  • Minimum 1 year in a fabrication, precision engineering, or maintenance environment
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of lab instruments
  • Strong knowledge of OSH and workshop safety protocols
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to support students and academic staff
  • Proficient in operating conventional the milling machines; knowledge of CNC setup is an advantage
  • Competent in Plasma Arc Cutting and welding processes (SMAW/GMAW/GTAW)
  • Proficient in PCB layout, chemical etching fabrication, and soldering would be and added advantage
