About the job

This role is open only to those who worked in dry food mix or condensed milk technology plant.. You will be expatriated and to work in Yangon.

ROLE PURPOSE & STRATEGIC CONTEXT

The Engineering Manager is the technical backbone of the plant, accountable for the availability, reliability, and fitness-for-purpose of all production assets, utilities, and infrastructure across the Coffee Mix and Condensed Milk manufacturing facilities. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role is a critical enabler of the plant's Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale commitments.

Operating to global engineering standards, the Engineering Manager leads a world-class predictive and reliability-centred asset management model. This encompasses TPM implementation, RCM-based maintenance strategy, capital project delivery, energy management, and the development of a technically capable, safety-conscious engineering team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Asset Reliability & Maintenance Excellence

•    Own and govern the plant's Maintenance Master Plan — encompassing Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Planned Maintenance (PM), and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programmes across all production lines and utilities.

•    Drive OEE improvement by systematically eliminating the six big losses (breakdowns, setup/adjustment, minor stoppages, reduced speed, quality defects, start-up losses) through structured TPM activities.

•    Apply RCM methodology to classify assets by criticality (safety-critical, production-critical, non-critical) and assign appropriate maintenance strategies — preventing over-maintenance of low-risk assets and under-maintenance of critical ones.

•    Establish and maintain equipment history cards, failure mode libraries (FMEA), and maintenance KPI dashboards in the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System, e.g., SAP PM or Maximo).

•    Manage Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) trends for all Tier-1 critical assets; set and track improvement targets quarter-on-quarter.

2. Production Support & Unplanned Downtime Elimination

•    Provide immediate technical support to production shifts during breakdowns on the coffee mix sachet lines, dry powder blending systems, condensed milk thermal processing units, evaporators, and canning/filling lines.

•    Lead structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) — using 5-Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), or FMEA tools — for all critical breakdowns (>2 hours lost production); present findings and permanent corrective actions to the Plant Manager within 48 hours.

•    Enforce a zero-recurrence standard: track repeat failures and implement engineering-level solutions (design modifications, component upgrades, or process changes) to eliminate chronic breakdowns permanently.

•    Maintain a live breakdown log with downtime impact quantified in production volume, cost, and OEE percentage — shared daily with the Plant Manager.

3. Planned Maintenance & Shutdown Management

•    Develop and execute annual planned shutdown and overhaul schedules coordinated with production planning to minimise commercial impact; manage multi-discipline contractors and internal teams during shutdowns.

•    Implement SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) principles to reduce changeover and line-reset times on sachet packaging and canning lines.

•    Govern the work order system: ensure all PM tasks are scheduled, executed on time, and closed with accurate labour and parts records — targeting ≥95% PM compliance monthly.

•    Manage the critical and non-critical spare parts inventory strategy with Procurement — balancing stock holding costs against line availability risk; set reorder points and safety stock levels for high-risk components.

4. Capital Projects & Engineering Investments

•    Identify, scope, and build business cases for capital investment projects (capacity expansion, line upgrades, automation, and infrastructure improvements); present to Plant Manager and Group Engineering for approval.

•    Project-manage approved CAPEX initiatives from concept through commissioning — managing scope, budget, timeline, contractor selection, and FAT/SAT (Factory Acceptance Testing/Site Acceptance Testing).

•    Ensure all new equipment and modifications are installed to GMP and food safety standards; update P&IDs, electrical drawings, and SOPs before operational handover to production.

•    Lead the qualification and validation of new or modified processing equipment (IQ/OQ/PQ) in line with food safety regulatory requirements.

5. Utilities & Energy Management

•    Own the reliability and efficiency of all plant utilities: steam generation and distribution, refrigeration systems, compressed air, chilled water, electrical HV/LV infrastructure, and water treatment.

•    Develop and execute an annual Energy Reduction Plan targeting a year-on-year improvement in energy intensity (GJ per tonne of production) aligned to group sustainability commitments.

•    Monitor utility consumption per production line using sub-metering data; identify and action energy waste through engineering solutions (variable speed drives, heat recovery, insulation upgrades).

•    Ensure all utilities and pressure systems comply with local statutory regulations and inspection schedules (boilers, pressure vessels, lifting equipment, electrical systems).

6. Food Safety, GMP & Engineering Compliance

•    Ensure all engineering work — whether maintenance, modification, or new installation — upholds GMP, HACCP, and allergen management requirements; no engineering activity may compromise food safety or product integrity.

•    Maintain up-to-date Hygienic Design standards for all equipment in the dairy and food processing environment; approve engineering change requests (ECRs) with a food safety risk assessment.

•    Own the CIP (Cleaning-in-Place) and COP (Cleaning-out-of-Place) system integrity — including spray ball coverage validation, flow rates, temperature, and chemical concentration monitoring.

•    Serve as the primary engineering contact during BRC, FSSC 22000, or internal group quality audits; ensure all engineering-related non-conformances are closed within agreed timelines.

7. EHS Leadership & Engineering Safety

•    Champion a zero-harm engineering culture: enforce safe systems of work including LOTO (Lock-Out/Tag-Out), PTW (Permit-to-Work), confined space entry, hot work, and working-at-height procedures.

•    Conduct regular engineering safety audits and risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZID) on critical processes and new projects; ensure findings are actioned before operations resume.

•    Manage all statutory inspection and certification programmes for pressure equipment, lifting gear, electrical installations, and fire protection systems.

•    Investigate all engineering-related incidents and near-misses using structured RCA; present learnings plant-wide and share with Group Engineering for network-level awareness.

8. Team Development & Technical Capability Building

•    Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team (maintenance supervisors, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation technicians) — building a multi-skilled, agile maintenance workforce.

•    Implement a structured technical competency framework: skills matrices, on-the-job training plans, and certification pathways for all engineering roles.

•    Embed TPM's Autonomous Maintenance pillar by training and qualifying production operators to perform routine equipment checks, basic cleaning, and early-warning detection — extending the engineering team's reach.

Note : To Build succession depth for all critical engineering roles; identify high-potential technicians for supervisor development tracks.

Education

•    Bachelor's Degree (minimum) in related engineering

•    TPM Practitioner or Facilitator certification (JIPM-accredited or equivalent) or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt minimum; Black Belt preferred

•    CMMS certification (SAP PM, IBM Maximo, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Experience

•    Minimum 10 years of hands-on engineering experience in FMCG, Food & Beverage, Dairy, or Consumer Goods manufacturing — with at least 4 years in an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, or equivalent leadership role.

•    Proven track record of managing complex multi-discipline maintenance teams (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls) in a high-care food production environment.

•    Demonstrated experience in both wet/thermal processing environments (pasteurisation, evaporation, CIP, aseptic filling) and dry/powder processing lines (blending, sachet packaging, dust management) — the dual-process background mirrors the plant's operations.

•    Hands-on experience delivering CAPEX projects from concept to commissioning in a food manufacturing setting.

•    Experience operating within or benchmarked against a global FMCG environment is a strong advantage.

Technical Skills

•    Deep expertise in: thermal processing equipment (plate heat exchangers, evaporators, sterilisers), canning/filling lines, dry blending systems, high-speed sachet packaging machines, and CIP/COP systems.

•    Strong competency in utilities engineering: steam systems (boilers, condensate recovery), industrial refrigeration, compressed air systems, and LV/HV electrical distribution.

•    Proficient in CMMS platforms (SAP PM or Maximo); competent in reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and mechanical engineering drawings.

•    Familiarity with SCADA/DCS/PLC systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, or equivalent); ability to interface with automation engineers on control system modifications.

•    Working knowledge of food safety engineering standards: 3-A Sanitary Standards, EHEDG Hygienic Design, ATEX (hazardous area) classifications, and pressure vessel regulations.
