Systems Engineering & Technical Authority
- Act as Lead Systems Engineer and technical design authority for baggage handling systems, cargo conveyance, checkpoint conveyors, and Automated Tray Return Systems (ATRS).
- Define and own system architectures, functional decompositions, interface control documents (ICDs), and system requirements across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and network domains.
- Lead system-level trade studies, risk assessments, and design decisions to balance performance, cost, schedule, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable aviation security, safety, EMC, machinery, and radiation regulations across global jurisdictions.
Product Development Lifecycle Leadership
- Lead systems engineering activities across the full product lifecycle: Concept ideation and feasibility
- o Product and system requirements definition
- o Architecture and detailed design
- o Integration, verification, and validation
- o Certification and regulatory support
- o Transition to production and field deployment
- o Product sustainment and lifecycle management
- · Execute development activities in alignment with Rapiscan’s Integrated Product Development Program (IPDP) and gated lifecycle processes.
- Serve as senior technical reviewer for system designs, test plans, validation reports, and readiness reviews.
Integration, Controls & Automation
- Lead the design and integration of automated conveyance and controls systems, including:
- o Conveyors, diverters, merges, and sortation
- o Motion control systems, encoders, and sensors
- o Barcode / RFID readers
- o PLC-based control systems and industrial networks
- o SCADA and HMI interfaces
- Ensure robust integration between conveyance systems and Rapiscan screening technologies, third-party equipment, and airport IT infrastructure.
- Oversee interface alignment with customer-supplied and third-party baggage handling systems.
Program & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Provide systems engineering leadership across multiple concurrent development and deployment programs, ensuring architectural consistency and technical rigor.
- Partner closely with Engineering Project Management, while maintaining clear role separation: this position leads technical and systems engineering execution and does not replace or assume program management responsibilities.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to multi-site global engineering teams and external suppliers.
- Lead design and integration reviews with customers, regulatory bodies, and third-party vendors.
- Support business development, proposals, and customer technical engagements, including concept development and technical risk assessments.
Manufacturing, Quality & Sustainment
- Ensure system designs meet manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and service requirements from early design phases.
- Support transition from development to production, including BOM readiness, work instructions, and manufacturing validation.
- Provide ongoing technical leadership for fielded systems, including reliability improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and end-of-life planning.
Leadership & Governance
- Mentor and technically develop systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineers.
- Promote disciplined systems engineering practices, documentation quality, and design rigor across programs.
- Uphold Rapiscan’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
- Ensure prompt escalation and resolution of quality or safety issues.
Requirement
