Who we are

Rooftop Energy is a tech-first EPC managing solar energy ecosystems entirely in-house. We take on projects involving rooftop solar, Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). We also run RooftopIQ, our proprietary B2B SaaS platform, which covers a whole range of solar-related functions for EPCs. These include deal origination, project management, procurement, site construction management, asset management, and other tools. Our office is located in Damansara, Selangor.

Your role

Rooftop is seeking a hands-on Engineering Lead to drive the technical direction of RooftopIQ, our proprietary B2B SaaS platform for the solar industry. Reporting to the CTO and sitting above the existing engineering team, you will be in the code daily while setting technical direction, raising the engineering bar, and shipping products. This is a build-first leadership role for an exceptional early-career engineer who is already moving faster than their years and wants to own a real product end to end. A senior technical lead provides the backstop to support you as you ramp.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction of RooftopIQ core while staying hands-on and writing production code every day.
  • Translate product and business problems into well-architected, reliable, and maintainable software.
  • Own features end to end, from design and build through to shipping and iterating in production.
  • Set and raise the engineering bar through code review, technical standards, and mentoring the existing team.
  • Work closely with Product and the wider team to ship a high-quality, fast-moving product in energy tech.

Who you are

Must-haves

  • 0 to 3 years of engineering experience. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. This is a deliberately early-career, high-potential hire.
  • An exceptional trajectory. You have driven a real project end to end, built and shipped something of your own, started a venture, led a hackathon or team, maintained open source, or punched well above your level in an internship.
  • Strong curiosity and proactivity, the instinct to self-teach and push forward without being told. At this experience level this is the single strongest signal we look for.
  • A real product you genuinely built yourself, whether academic, personal, or in an internship, not just a small part of something larger.
  • A genuine pull toward an early-stage, high-ownership environment over a big-company graduate track.

Nice-to-haves

  • Open-source contributions, a technical blog, or a portfolio of side projects we can look at.
  • A genuine interest in energy, sustainability, or climate technology.
  • Experience working in a startup environment, with a genuine enthusiasm for its pace and demands.

What we offer

  • Working days — Monday to Friday
  • Working hours — flexible; can start as early as 7am
  • No clock-in / clock-out system for attendance
