Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer (L2) on a contract basis to support and operate enterprise network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, and cloud environments. The role requires hands-on expertise in switching, firewall management, VPNs, DNS/DHCP, and network security.
You will be responsible for maintaining network performance, implementing configurations using infrastructure-as-code, and ensuring high availability, security, and compliance across all network systems.
Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure & Operations
- Manage and support LAN/WAN environments including VLANs, trunking, Spanning Tree, and Layer 3 routing.
- Configure and maintain Aruba switching infrastructure (VLAN provisioning, port and policy management).
- Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity to meet SLAs.
Firewall & Security Management
- Administer Fortinet FortiGate and MikroTik firewalls including rule lifecycle, NAT, and security profiles.
- Perform security patching (CVE) and ensure policy compliance.
- Monitor and respond to network security incidents and anomalies.
VPN & Remote Access
- Configure and manage SSL VPN and client VPN gateways.
- Administer user access, profiles, and VPN tunnel health monitoring.
Core Network Services
- Manage DNS, DHCP, and IPAM including zones, scopes, and IP allocation lifecycle.
- Configure and maintain load balancing (rules, health checks, listeners).
Cloud & Advanced Networking
- Support cloud networking environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) including virtual networks, routing, and security groups.
- Deploy and manage cloud network virtual appliance (VA) firewalls.
- Operate and maintain anti-DDoS solutions (on-prem and cloud-native).
Monitoring & Optimization
- Use Cisco DNA Centre and Cisco ThousandEyes for network monitoring and synthetic testing.
- Monitor QoS performance metrics and conduct trend analysis.
- Perform regular performance tuning and policy optimization.
Automation & Configuration Management
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible.
- Maintain version-controlled configurations and reusable templates.
Support & Governance
- Provide L2 support for network incidents and service requests.
- Participate in change management (CAB) and maintain audit records.
- Maintain network documentation, runbooks, and topology diagrams.
- Coordinate with vendors and L3 teams for escalations where needed.
Required Skills & Competencies
- 2–5 years of experience in network engineering and operations
- Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing, and switching
- Strong experience with Aruba switches
- Experience managing Fortinet FortiGate and/or MikroTik firewalls
- Knowledge of VPN technologies (SSL VPN, client VPN)
- Experience with DNS, DHCP, and IPAM solutions
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (Cisco DNA, ThousandEyes)
- Exposure to cloud networking concepts (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Basic experience with Terraform and Ansible
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with load balancers and anti-DDoS solutions
- Knowledge of network security frameworks and compliance standards
- Scripting skills (Python, Bash)
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, NSE, Aruba, etc.)
