Position Summary:
LEGOLAND’s Model Builder role is a highly skilled and creative role responsible for designing, building, repairing and maintaining intricate LEGO models and sculptures for LEGOLAND theme parks under the purview of the Events & Entertainment team. This role involves creating awe-inspiring LEGO structures that contribute to the unique and immersive experience of LEGOLAND parks; design and build sturdy, accurate, complicated, safe and installable LEGO models for a wide variety of LEGOLAND attractions including miniature scale models and/or life-sized organic models from prototypes, diagrams, or computer generated instructions.
Reporting to the Master Model Builder in LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, the Model Builder is expected to assist him/her in their daily duties that include creating and organizing park-wide LEGO-related events and festivals held throughout the year. This includes, but is not limited to, leading and organizing workshops for guests of various ages in a classroom setting (daily workshops, handling VIP build sessions etc…).
You will have the ability to communicate, interact and support your team members and superior in the department by exhibiting your best practices that aligned with the Merlin core values. You will also be required to exemplify your best behaviour and work well with other team members in the department/organization and to carry out assignments that are delegated by your superior in a timely manner.
Scope and Responsibilities:
- LEGO Proficiency: Foundational understanding of LEGO building techniques and familiarity with various LEGO elements, sets, and themes.
- Teaching Skills: The ability to effectively teach and engage learners of all ages and skill levels through workshops, promoting a love for LEGO and creative expression. Train and coach new team mates or interns joining the department in terms of LEGO models building and installation.
- Model Design: Develop creative concepts and detailed designs for a wide range of LEGO models, sculptures, and displays that align with the LEGOLAND theme and storytelling.
- Creative Collaboration: Collaborate with other LEGOLAND creative teams to ensure that LEGO models are produced on time for events and other festivals.
- Public Engagement: Engage with guests, providing information about the LEGO models, the construction process, and LEGO building techniques.
- Special Events: Build and/or install models for ad-hoc requests from various departments within LEGOLAND, especially from E&E, but also coming from Sales & Marketing and other departments for promotional events and/or festivals.
- Safety Compliance: Keeps both guest and Model Citizen’s safety the # 1 priority. Accountable for proactively maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for park guests and employees utilizing resources from local and state resources, and Security/Loss Prevention. Make sure models meet expectations and requirements in terms of design, safety and installation. This extends to Cleanliness, Storage, Sorting of the equipment (LEGO Bricks, tools, glue).
- Perform or assist any special and ad-hoc tasks as and when required.
Background and Experience:
- LEGO Expertise: Profound knowledge of LEGO building techniques, elements, and sets with a demonstrated ability to create complex and visually appealing models.
- Creative Vision: Strong artistic and creative skills to transform ideas into realistic LEGO creations, often with storytelling elements.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication and public-speaking abilities to interact with visitors, guests, and media in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software for planning and designing LEGO models can be an advantage.
- Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively with other LEGOLAND creative teams to ensure the seamless integration of LEGO models into the park's overall design.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to working safely with LEGO elements and equipment.
- Passion for LEGO: An undeniable passion for LEGO and a deep appreciation for the brand's history, products, and creative possibilities.
