About the role

MARINA BUSINESS HOLDINGS is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our finance team in Sungai Petani, Kedah. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in supporting our accounting operations and ensuring the smooth day-to-day management of our financial records. As an Accounting Assistant, you will provide essential support to our accounting department, contributing to the accuracy and integrity of our financial information whilst helping to maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

1. Processing and recording financial transactions including invoices, receipts, and expense claims into the accounting system

2. Assisting with the preparation and reconciliation of bank statements and general ledger accounts

3. Maintaining accurate and organised financial records and documentation

4. Supporting the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including payment processing and collection follow-ups

5. Preparing routine financial reports and statements under the supervision of senior accounting staff

6. Performing data entry tasks with high accuracy and attention to detail

7. Assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures

8. Supporting audits and providing necessary documentation to external auditors

9. Answering routine accounting queries from internal departments and external stakeholders

10. Contributing to the development and improvement of accounting processes and procedures

What we're looking for

1. A qualification in accounting, such as AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians), ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting certification, or currently studying towards such a qualification

2. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to learn new systems quickly

3. Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail

4. Excellent organisational and time management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines

5. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels

6. A thorough understanding of basic accounting principles and practices

7. Reliability, integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial information

8. Preferred: Previous experience in an accounting or finance role, even in an entry-level capacity

9. Preferred: Familiarity with Malaysian accounting standards and tax regulations
