About the role

Onsight Optical is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Optician to join our team in Johor Bahru, Johor. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in delivering exceptional eye care services to our patients. As an Optician, you will be instrumental in ensuring that every patient receives accurate vision correction and the highest standard of optical care. This position is fundamental to our mission of providing comprehensive eye health solutions and supporting our optometrists and ophthalmologists in delivering outstanding patient outcomes.

What you'll be doing

1. Performing accurate eye measurements and refractions to determine patients' optical prescriptions

2. Fitting and dispensing spectacles, contact lenses and other optical devices in accordance with prescriptions

3. Advising patients on the most suitable eyewear options, materials and lens coatings based on their visual needs and lifestyle

4. Conducting preliminary eye tests and screening procedures as directed by the supervising optometrist or ophthalmologist

5. Maintaining detailed patient records and ensuring all optical data is accurately documented in the patient management system

6. Ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations and optical dispensing standards

7. Providing excellent customer service and building positive relationships with patients

8. Maintaining the optical dispensary, equipment and inventory in good working order

9. Educating patients on proper eyewear care, maintenance and usage

10. Supporting the wider optical team to ensure smooth daily operations

What we're looking for

1. Formal qualification in Optometry or Opticianry from a recognised institution

2. Current professional registration or licensing as an Optician (if required by local regulations)

3. Proven experience working as an Optician in a healthcare setting, ideally in an optical retail or clinical environment

4. Strong technical knowledge of lenses, frames, contact lenses and optical equipment

5. Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements and fitting

6. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with patients and explain optical concepts in an accessible manner

7. Patient-focused approach with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

8. Proficiency in using optical dispensing software and patient management systems

9. Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a healthcare team

10. Good organisational and time management skills

11. A commitment to continuing professional development and staying current with optical advancements
