The Indian Heritage Gallery & Cultural Centre (IHCC) is a unique cultural attraction located in the heart of George Town, Penang. Alongside our heritage gallery, we operate a café serving quality Western and Malaysian fusion dishes in a welcoming environment.

Job Summary

IHCC is looking for a hardworking and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support the daily operations of our café kitchen. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness, ensure proper food storage, and help the kitchen team deliver quality meals efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing ingredients such as washing, cutting, peeling, and portioning food.
• Support cooks in preparing and plating menu items.
• Wash dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and maintain a clean work area.
• Ensure the kitchen, storage areas, and food preparation stations are clean and organized.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
• Assist with receiving, checking, and storing food supplies.
• Monitor stock levels and inform the Kitchen Supervisor or Manager of shortages.
• Dispose of kitchen waste properly and maintain cleanliness throughout the shift.
• Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Restaurant Manager.

Requirements

• Minimum SPM qualification.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience is an advantage but not required.
• Fresh school leavers are encouraged to apply.
• Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and food safety is an advantage.
• Able to work weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts.
• Positive attitude, responsible, and willing to learn.
• Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
• Physically fit and able to stand for long periods and lift light to moderate items.

Preferred Skills

• Good communication and teamwork.
• Basic understanding of food preparation.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Salary

RM1,700 – RM2,300 per month (depending on experience and qualifications)
