Caring Hearts Bhd operates Equal Start Learning Centres offering Pre-Primary and Primary education to out-of-school children, giving them a chance to learn, grow, and thrive. We are seeking a compassionate Teacher to lead the classroom, engage with students, and help maintain a positive and nurturing learning environment.

The Teacher plays a crucial role in the daily operations and success of the learning center, with a focus on the holistic growth of each student.

The Teacher is responsible for the overall academic quality, classroom management, student progress, and daily operations of the assigned Learning Centre classroom.

The Teacher provides instructional leadership, supervises the Assistant Teacher, ensures compliance with all operational and safeguarding policies, and is fully accountable for student learning outcomes and classroom discipline.

The Teacher ensures that the Equal Start Education program is delivered effectively, consistently, and in alignment with the organization’s mission, professional standards, and safeguarding requirements.

Location & Working Hours

  • Location: Perai
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (30-min lunch)
  • The Learning Centre is closed during term breaks and on most Malaysian public holidays.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Degree in Education or a related field is strongly preferred. Relevant teaching experience may be considered as a substitute where appropriate.
  • Possesses a genuine passion for working with children and consistently shows care, patience, and commitment to their well-being and development.
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a classroom and take full ownership of student outcomes.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Competency in student assessment and progress tracking.
  • Basic digital literacy and data management skills.
  • Leadership ability and experience supervising others are advantages.
  • Demonstrated record of punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance in previous roles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Communication with the Leaders

  • Communicate with the Learning Centre Lead regarding the daily status of the classroom and operational matters.
  • Communicate concerns or unusual situations promptly to the Learning Centre Lead, Equal Start Education team or Caring Hearts management.

2. Classroom Operations and Administrative

  • Oversee daily operations, including opening/closing the centre, and securing the facilities at the end of each day.
  • Arrive at the Learning Centre at least 30 min prior to the start of class each class day.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee daily classroom operations.
  • Ensure classroom readiness before the start of each class and each new term to have a smooth and effective resumption of lessons.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the centre and shared spaces.
  • Register, assess new students, make placement decisions, and update assessment data to the system.
  • Ensure all required documents for registration are complete and saved to the system within a week of enrollment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates of daily attendance, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Collect school fees and issue receipts.
  • Monitor student fee payment status, provide reminders to families when necessary, and escalate non-payment issues when necessary.

3. Classroom Leadership and Management

  • Provide structured guidance and regular feedback to the Assistant Teacher to ensure instructional quality and consistency.
  • Review and validate student assessments conducted by the Assistant Teacher.
  • Brief and assign tasks to volunteers, and ensure volunteers are appropriately guided and supervised.
  • Mark the workbooks and ensure all workbooks and works are marked timely.
  • Promote teamwork and positive collaboration within the classroom.
  • Establish classroom routines and clear behavioral expectations.
  • Monitor classroom discipline and maintain a structured, safe, conducive, and respectful learning environment.

4. Academic Instruction and Student Monitoring

  • Plan, prepare, organize, and deliver daily lessons according to the Equal Start Education program in a caring and conducive way.
  • Ensure lessons are conducted in a structured, engaging, and effective manner.
  • Monitor lesson pacing and curriculum coverage.
  • Ensure completion of lessons and program milestones.
  • Monitor the quality and consistency of instruction delivered by the Assistant Teacher.
  • Group students based on competency levels and learning needs.
  • Track attendance trends and follow up on concerns.
  • Conduct student assessment at each level completed, review, and validate the assessments and level completion decisions.
  • Monitor overall student academic progress, behavioral, or welfare concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Identify students who are falling behind and implement appropriate support strategies in a timely manner.
  • Address disciplinary matters appropriately and consistently.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for student discipline and classroom environment.

5. Classroom Resources and Compliance Oversight

  • Maintain devices, equipment, learning materials and supplies, and ensure they are secured daily.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and accountability of teaching materials and devices.
  • Distribute materials and devices to students, and collect, store, and recharge them at the end of the day.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to health, safety, security, cleanliness, and maintenance of equipment and premises.
  • Comply fully with all child safeguarding requirements, including signing, adhering to, and promptly reporting concerns in accordance with the Child Protection Policy.

6. Parent and Community Engagement

  • Represent the Learning Centre professionally in interactions with families and community members.
  • Lead communication with parents regarding academic progress and significant concerns.
  • Address parent feedback or issues calmly, respectfully, and in a solutions-focused manner.
  • Communicate with and visit students’ parents as and when required.

7. Professional Development and Continuous Improvement

  • Attend team meetings and training development sessions as required.
  • Support program development and curriculum improvement.
  • Contribute constructively to continuous program improvement in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Model professional growth and continuous learning.
  • Assist in mentoring new teachers or assistant teachers when required.

8. Other Duties:

  • Assist with the development and creation of program learning materials.
  • Support centre-wide initiatives and events.
  • Supervise students during field trips or special programs.
  • Greet parents and students to create a welcoming environment for all.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Learning Centre Lead.

9. Behavioral Expectations:

  • Prioritizes child safety and student well-being at all times and strictly adheres to all child safeguarding policies and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with students and families.
  • Does not accept gifts, money, or favors from families and does not exploit relationships for personal gain.
  • Demonstrates integrity, fairness, and ethical conduct at all times.
  • Discloses and seeks approval for any additional income or external engagements in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Maintains consistent punctuality and attendance and provides timely notice in accordance with organizational leave and absence policies.
