Location: Remote / Hybrid (Occasional meet-ups around KL / Selangor)
Employment Type: Freelance Contract (2 Months)
Salary: RM6,000 – RM8,500/month (depending on experience & skill set)

We are looking for an experienced Data Architect to design and establish a secure, scalable enterprise data platform supporting analytics and AI workloads. This role will focus on defining data architecture standards, governance frameworks, security controls, and long-term scalability strategies.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in data architecture, relational and distributed databases, and enterprise data environments. You should be comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design enterprise data architecture, including logical and physical data models.
  • Define multi-layer data architecture for structured and unstructured data environments.
  • Establish data governance, classification, ownership, and access control frameworks.
  • Architect solutions across relational databases, NoSQL databases, search platforms, vector databases, and object storage systems.
  • Define disaster recovery strategies, including RTO/RPO, backup policies, replication, and failover architecture.
  • Design high-availability and scalable data platform solutions.
  • Define database performance optimisation strategies including indexing, partitioning, and schema standards.
  • Establish data lifecycle management policies, including retention and archival.
  • Ensure data security, audit logging, access tracking, and governance compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to Data Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Analytics teams.

Skills & Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, or related roles.
  • Strong experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with search and indexing platforms (OpenSearch / Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with object storage systems (S3-compatible storage).
  • Understanding of distributed systems and high-availability architecture.
  • Experience defining backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and RTO/RPO requirements.
  • Strong understanding of data security, governance, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with AI/ML data platforms or data feeding workflows.
  • Exposure to on-premise enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, or similar tools.
  • Experience handling both Data Architect and Data Engineering responsibilities.

Project Details

  • Freelance engagement.
  • Initial contract duration: 2 months (renewable based on project requirements).
  • Candidates who can manage both architecture and engineering scopes may be considered for a longer contract and enhanced package.

Pay: RM6,000.00 - RM8,500.00 per month
