About The Role
We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to support the delivery of a large-scale Smart City initiative. This role focuses on building robust backend systems that connect operational technology (OT) field devices with digital platforms, enabling real-time data integration and operational insights. You will play a key role in delivering production-grade systems in a live, complex environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain backend services for OT/IoT data ingestion, including implementation of industrial communication protocols such as OPC-UA, MODBUS, and MQTT
Build and optimize data pipelines to process, normalize, and route real-time telemetry to downstream systems and visualization platforms
Integrate backend services with frontend and platform components through API contracts (REST/WebSocket)
Apply AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, testing, and validation processes
Design and maintain automated test suites for protocol adapters, data processing logic, and integration endpoints
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and technical documentation to ensure high-quality delivery
Troubleshoot connectivity and protocol issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve field-level challenges
Required Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience in backend or systems software engineering, preferably within OT/IoT environments
Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols (OPC-UA, MODBUS, MQTT)
Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, or Java)
Experience working with message brokers and event-driven or time-series data architectures
Proven experience in writing unit and integration tests using modern testing frameworks
Practical experience using AI coding tools to support software development and testing workflows
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital twin platforms or industrial IoT ecosystems
Familiarity with OT security practices such as network segmentation and secure device communication
Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
Knowledge of additional industrial protocols such as SCADA, BACnet, or DNP3
Exposure to real-time data ingestion and visualization systems
