Role Description This is a full-time, on-site biomedical technician role based in Cheras. The biomedical technician is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and documentation of medical equipment used throughout the hospital. The role supports the biomedical engineer in ensuring that all medical devices are safe, reliable, compliant with regulatory requirements, and available to support high-quality patient care. The biomedical technician works closely with clinical users, equipment vendors, and other support departments to maintain optimal equipment performance while minimising equipment downtime.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.   Medical Electrical Equipment/Biomedical Equipment Maintenance

I. Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) according to the hospital maintenance schedule.

II. Conduct functional testing, calibration, and safety inspections of medical equipment.

III. Diagnose equipment faults and carry out repairs within the scope of competency.

IV. Replace defective components and perform routine servicing.

V. Ensure all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.


2.   Equipment Installation & Commissioning

I. Assist in the installation, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new medical equipment.

II. Verify equipment performance before clinical use.

III. Coordinate with vendors during equipment installation and warranty service.


3.   Corrective Maintenance

I. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and user service requests.

II. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults related to medical devices

III. Escalate complex technical issues to the Biomedical Engineer or equipment manufacturer when necessary.

IV. Minimise equipment downtime through timely repairs.


4.   Equipment Inventory & Documentation

I. Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or equipment database.

II. Update equipment history, repair records, calibration reports, and preventive maintenance records.

III. Assist in maintaining the hospital's medical equipment inventory and asset register.


5.   Safety & Regulatory Compliance

I. Perform electrical safety testing on medical equipment as per standard requirements.

II. Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.

III. Identify unsafe equipment and remove it from service until repaired.

IV. Support audits and inspections conducted by regulatory authorities.


6.   User Support & Training

I. Provide first-level technical support to clinical departments.

II. Educate users on proper operation and basic care of medical equipment.

III. Assist in developing user guides and operating procedures.


7.   Spare Parts & Inventory Management

I. Monitor spare parts usage and inventory.

II. Recommend procurement of replacement parts and consumables.

III. Assist in evaluating equipment replacement requirements.


8.   Quality Improvement

I. Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to medical equipment management.

II. Support equipment performance monitoring and reliability analysis.

III. Report recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.



QUALIFICATION

Diploma in biomedical engineering technology, biomedical electronics, electrical engineering technology, medical electronics, or a related field.

a) 1–3 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance in a hospital or healthcare environment is preferred.

b) Fresh graduates with relevant internship experience may also be considered.
