Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Environmental Engineer at PGEO Edible Oils Sdn Bhd (A Member of Wilmar International Group of Companies) in Pasir Gudang.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in operating or managing an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), or industrial water treatment system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, wastewater treatment processes, and DOE requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems will be an advantage.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and report preparation.
  • Certified Environmental Professional in Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (CePIETSO) certification is an added advantage.

Job Responsibilities

Plant Operations

  • Manage the daily operation and maintenance of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment and process issues to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of chemicals, spare parts, and laboratory consumables.
  • Ensure optimal plant performance while minimizing operating costs.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce effluent generation and treatment costs.
  • Conduct regular ETP self-audits and ensure compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements.
  • Lead emergency response actions for accidental effluent spills or untreated discharge incidents.

Plant Design & Continuous Improvement

  • Support plant expansion, upgrading, and modification projects.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance treatment efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.

Performance Monitoring & Laboratory Management

  • Monitor daily effluent quality to ensure compliance with regulatory discharge standards.
  • Coordinate sampling and testing activities with external laboratories.
  • Oversee all ETP laboratory operations and ensure testing accuracy.
  • Verify operational and performance monitoring data.
  • Work closely with production departments to resolve issues affecting effluent quality.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, supervise, and coach ETP Operators on daily operations, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure team members are adequately trained and competent in standard operating procedures.

Documentation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain operational records, reports, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Submit monthly effluent discharge reports to the Department of Environment (DOE) through the online reporting system.
  • Prepare monthly operational and cost reports.
  • Escalate abnormal plant conditions and operational issues to the Plant Manager and Certified Environmental Professional (CePIETSO), where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company policies, and legal requirements related to wastewater and waste management.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, HR, and other departments to support ETP operations and improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with external authorities, laboratories, contractors, and service providers when required.
