Project Director (Data Centres)
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of a large-scale data centre development in Malaysia. This role will have full accountability for the successful execution of the project from pre-construction through commissioning and handover, ensuring delivery against schedule, quality, safety, cost, and operational objectives. This is a high-impact leadership position suited to a proven project delivery professional who has successfully managed complex, large-scale construction or mission-critical infrastructure programmes across Southeast Asia.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for project delivery from development and design through construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
- Lead and manage internal project teams, consultants, and external delivery partners to achieve key programme objectives.
- Oversee the Project Management Consultancy (PMC), ensuring robust governance, reporting, risk management, and programme execution.
- Hold contractors accountable for performance across safety, quality, schedule, cost, and delivery commitments.
- Maintain sufficient technical and commercial understanding to challenge assumptions, identify risks, and drive informed decision-making.
- Establish effective project controls and governance processes to ensure timely escalation and resolution of issues.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders including consultants, contractors, utility providers, authorities, and senior leadership.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture across diverse and multicultural project teams.
- Support future expansion initiatives and ongoing development activities within the wider campus portfolio.
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven track record delivering large-scale construction, infrastructure, industrial, or mission-critical projects with end-to-end accountability.
- Significant project delivery experience in Southeast Asia, ideally within Malaysia and/or Singapore.
- Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee complex project schedules, risk management frameworks, quality standards, and stakeholder relationships.
- Experience operating within culturally diverse environments and leading regional project teams.
- Data centre project experience is highly desirable.
- Background with a major contractor, EPC organisation, or design-and-build delivery environment is advantageous.
- Experience managing large international contractors, particularly within complex construction programmes, would be beneficial.
- Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
