Job Description

Responsibilities

Batik Boutique is looking for a Batik Design Intern to support our design, production, and workshop teams.

This role is suitable for someone who is creative, detail oriented, and interested in learning how batik designs are developed from concept to product. You will be involved in design research, pattern development, digital artwork and hands-on batik-related tasks.

This internship is a good opportunity for someone who wants practical experience in textile design, batik, product development, and creative production. The role will include both computer-based design work and actual hands-on batik work. There is also potential to transition into a full-time position based on performance and business needs.

Candidates with a batik, textile, fashion, craft, or art background will be prioritized. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the design team with batik pattern research, moodboards, references, and design development
  • Support digital artwork preparation for prints, patterns, product mockups, and presentation materials
  • Help prepare design files, artwork references, and product specifications for internal use
  • Support the development of batik and shibori samples together with the production team
  • Assist in organizing design references, fabric samples, batik swatches, and artwork files
  • Help check samples for color, placement, proportion, and overall design accuracy
  • Support product development tasks for apparel, accessories, gifts, and lifestyle products
  • Assist with preparing materials for batik workshops when needed
  • Support workshop sessions when required, including setup, participant assistance, and cleanup
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization in the design, sample, and workshop areas
  • Work closely with the design and workshop PIC when needed
  • Perform other design or production-related tasks assigned by the line manager

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in textile design, fashion design, graphic design, fine art, craft, product design, or related fields
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply
  • Batik, textile, fashion, craft, or art background is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, Procreate, or similar design tools is preferred
  • Interested in Malaysian batik, handmade craft, textile, color, and pattern design
  • Comfortable with both computer-based design work and hands-on production tasks
  • Creative, organized, and detail oriented
  • Able to follow instructions and update design/sample records accurately
  • Good communication skills
  • Proactive, responsible, and willing to learn
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced creative and production environment
  • Able to work well with design, production, workshop, and retail teams
