We are building a brand-new digital delivery capability in Malaysia as part of a major, multi-year transformation program for a large and complex higher-education environment.

This is not a short-term project or business-as-usual development. The work focuses on re-imagining core student and learning platforms at scale, modernising legacy systems, and delivering digital services that will support tens of thousands of users for years to come.

We are seeking an experienced PHP Developer to play a key hands-on role in strengthening and expanding the organisation's digital learning and student platform capability.

What You'll Be Working On



Digital Learning and Student Platforms

• Enhancing, extending, and supporting enterprise-scale digital learning platforms
• Designing and developing custom applications, integrations, and platform extensions
• Improving platform performance, stability, and consistency
• Supporting platform upgrades, consolidation, and remediation activities
• Contributing to the evolution of learning and student-facing digital experiences
  
  

Building Digital Capability in Malaysia

• Helping establish a new digital technology hub from the ground up
• Working across platforms such as Moodle, Salesforce, Ellucian (Student Management Systems), and Business Intelligence solutions
• Contributing to long-term platform sustainability and modern engineering practices
  
  

Student Services Digital Transformation

Transforming legacy, manual student services into a fully digital experience by supporting platforms that enable:

• Messaging-based engagement (e.g. WhatsApp)
• AI-driven chat and self-service capabilities
• Appointment booking and digital service management
• Student self-service across enrolment, finance, and support functions

This work is foundational and will directly shape the future digital experience for students.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and configure PHP applications as part of a large-scale enhancement and transformation program
• Design, build, and maintain custom integrations, extensions, and platform functionality
• Support migrations, upgrades, and platform consolidation activities
• Optimise application performance, scalability, and reliability
• Diagnose and resolve defects across complex environments
• Collaborate within agile delivery teams including developers, QA, business analysts, and product stakeholders
• Produce clean, secure, and well-tested code aligned to enterprise engineering standards
  
  

Skills & Experience Required



Essential

• Strong commercial experience with PHP development
• Strong understanding of object-oriented PHP and modern development practices
• Experience designing and building integrations using APIs
• Solid front-end development skills using JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS
• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Strong Git version control experience in team-based environments
• Experience working with Docker-based development environments
• Unit testing experience using PHPUnit or similar testing frameworks
• Experience working on medium-to-large scale web applications or enterprise platforms
  
  

Desirable

• Experience with Moodle development, administration, or custom plugin development
• Experience supporting learning management systems (LMS) or digital learning platforms
• Experience with Moodle upgrades, migrations, or environment consolidation
• Exposure to automated testing frameworks such as Robot Framework
• Experience within higher education, student systems, or large-scale digital transformation programs
• Experience integrating with platforms such as Salesforce, Ellucian, or other enterprise SaaS solutions
