We are URGENTLY looking for a dedicated and passionate Commis Chef to join our MR CHAI CAFE (Indian-Western fusion). The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing authentic Indian breakfast dishes and Indian-inspired Western cuisine according to our established menu, recipes, and quality standards. This role requires consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook Indian breakfast dishes such as puri, idli, dosa, vadai, appam and other menu items.
- Prepare Indian-style Western dishes, including pasta, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, grilled items, rice bowls, and other fusion dishes according to recipes.
- Follow standard recipes, portion sizes, and presentation guidelines to ensure consistency.
- Assist with food preparation, mise en place, and daily kitchen operations.
- Ensure all ingredients are stored, handled, and rotated according to food safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workstation at all times.
- Monitor food quality and report any shortages or quality issues to the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
- Assist with stock control, inventory checks, and minimising food waste.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely preparation and service during busy periods.
- Comply with all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Commis Chef, Cook, or Kitchen Assistant, preferably in an Indian restaurant, café, or fusion kitchen.
- Knowledge of Indian breakfast preparation and basic Western cooking techniques.
- Ability to accurately follow recipes and maintain consistent food quality.
- Good understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and good teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of relevant kitchen experience.
- Experience in Indian-Western fusion cuisine is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of inventory control and food cost management is a plus.
Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM3,500.00 per month
