We are seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Technical Laboratory Assistant (Refinery Operations) to join our Laboratory Technology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory analysis of refinery process samples and finished products to ensure product quality, operational reliability, and compliance with international laboratory standards.
This role plays a critical part in supporting refinery operations by delivering accurate, timely, and reliable analytical results while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and non-routine laboratory testing of refinery process samples and finished products in accordance with approved test methods and procedures.
Ensure all laboratory activities comply with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, Laboratory Quality System procedures, and company HSSE standards.
Conduct quality control testing to support refinery operations, blending activities, and product certification.
Review and verify laboratory worksheets, test results, and analytical reports for accuracy and completeness.
Act as an authorized signatory for quality reports and Certificates of Quality (COQs), excluding Jet A-1 products.
Perform equipment checks, calibration, validation, and standardization activities to maintain analytical reliability.
Carry out laboratory equipment setup, troubleshooting, and chemical reagent preparation under the guidance of the Head of Laboratory.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with laboratory safety requirements.
Participate in HSSE initiatives, report near misses and potential incidents, and comply with all laboratory safety requirements.
Work effectively on a rotating shift schedule to support continuous refinery operations.
Managing multiple laboratory testing priorities to meet operational requirements and deadlines.
Ensuring accurate and timely verification of refinery product quality.
Maintaining laboratory reliability and compliance with quality and safety standards.
Minimum qualification: SPM or equivalent, preferably with a Science background and credits in Science and Mathematics.
Basic knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and analytical techniques.
Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory standards and quality management practices.
Knowledge of chemical handling procedures, laboratory hazards, and safe working practices.
Computer literate with good written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Willing to work on rotating shifts.
Experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, or industrial laboratory environments.
Knowledge of petroleum product testing methods and quality specifications.
Ability to perform laboratory equipment calibration and standardization.
Strong troubleshooting skills related to analytical testing and product quality issues.
Good understanding of laboratory quality systems and documentation requirements.
Knowledge of waste management and chemical inventory control.
Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet changing operational demands.
