Job Purposes
The Business Intelligence Analyst will play a key role in the BI team, responsible for responding to ad-hoc data requests and analysis from business stakeholders, and delivering quick-turnaround reports, summaries, and data extracts. The successful candidate will work closely with other BI Analysts and the BI Manager, escalating complex or ambiguous requests as needed, while building up their Power BI, report automation, and AI adoption works over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to ad-hoc data requests and analysis from business stakeholders with quick turnaround.
- Produce one-off reports, summaries, and data extracts using Power BI, Excel, and SQL.
- Clarify business questions with stakeholders and translate them into specific, well-defined data requests.
- Analyze data to answer specific business questions and identify notable trends or patterns.
- Escalate complex, ambiguous, or high-stakes analysis requests to other Analysts or BI Manager for guidance.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency in all ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
- Document recurring or common requests to help identify opportunities for self-service or automation.
- Undergo a structured onboarding and shadowing period with the BI Analyst before handling requests independently.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
- Fresh graduate or up to 1 year of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SQL is expected even without on-the-job experience. Power BI Exposure is a plus but not required, as training will be provided.
- Good analytical skills and comfort working with data in Excel, SQL, and/or Power BI.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence engaging directly with business stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on well-defined tasks.
- Willingness to learn Power BI and other BI tools on the job.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, look ups) and database management (SQL).
- Familiarity with Power BI is an advantage, though not required at entry level.
- Ability to recognize when a request should be escalated rather than attempted independently.
- A proactive, service-oriented mindset when handling requests from business users.
- Understanding of business processes and data requirements in various industries.
