Summary:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, and integration of automation systems throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures that automation solutions are effectively integrated with multidisciplinary engineering designs, comply with applicable standards, and support successful construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the automation scope with other designers for PLC/DCS (by Emerson), Process Systems (by ABB) and CSA + MEPF (by Aurecon) disciplines.
- Coordinate the overall automation system architecture and design.
- Size the MCC/control room to accommodate Emerson cabinets and future expansion.
- Ensure Emerson cabinets and remote I/O cabinets are incorporated into design drawings.
- Coordinate the layout of the control room, operator workstations, and engineering stations.
- Design cable routes between field instruments, junction boxes, remote I/O cabinets, and Emerson cabinets.
- Size cable trays, conduits, and cable ducts for automation cabling.
- Prepare automation installation requirements and cable installation guidelines.
- Coordinate power supply, UPS, earthing, and grounding requirements for automation systems.
- Consider electrical load and HVAC heat dissipation requirements for automation equipment.
- Support the design and integration of the Building Management System (BMS).
- Define interfaces between Emerson systems and third-party systems (BMS, Fire Alarm, Access Control, etc.).
- Coordinate industrial network and fiber optic infrastructure requirements.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, ISA, ATEX, and other applicable standards.
- Review automation-related vendor documents and multidisciplinary design deliverables.
- Support design reviews, construction activities, commissioning, and system handover.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Automation, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7-8+ years of experience in industrial automation engineering, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or process industries
- Experience with DCS/PLC/SCADA systems, preferably Emerson DeltaV, and automation system integration
- Strong knowledge of automation system architecture, control room design, remote I/O, MCC, and industrial communication networks
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and integrating automation systems with BMS, Fire Alarm, Access Control, and other third-party systems
- Familiarity with automation cable routing, power distribution, UPS, grounding, HVAC interface, and installation requirements
- Knowledge of international standards such as IEC, ISA, and ATEX
- Experience reviewing vendor documentation, engineering drawings, and supporting design, construction, commissioning, and system handover
- Proficient in AutoCAD or other engineering design tools
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary project environment
- Must be open to work on a Fixed Term Contract (1 Year)
