About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Design & Build team for a mission-critical Data Centre project in Cyberjaya. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering scope throughout the project lifecycle, from design coordination and technical reviews through construction, testing & commissioning, and project handover.

This role requires strong technical expertise in mission-critical electrical systems, excellent coordination skills, and experience working within a fast-paced EPC or Main Contractor environment.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design Management

• Lead and coordinate the electrical engineering scope for Design & Build Data Centre projects.
• Review and manage electrical design submissions for compliance with project specifications, client requirements, local authority regulations, and applicable international standards.
• Coordinate with consultants, design partners, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure seamless design integration.
• Resolve technical issues during design development and construction phases.
• Participate in design workshops, value engineering initiatives, and constructability reviews.

Project Delivery

• Support project execution from detailed design through construction and final handover.
• Monitor construction progress and ensure electrical installations comply with approved drawings and quality standards.
• Coordinate interfaces between electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural disciplines.
• Identify project risks and propose technical mitigation strategies.
• Support procurement by reviewing technical specifications and evaluating vendor submissions.

Mission-Critical Electrical Systems

Manage and oversee installation and commissioning of systems including:

• Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) distribution
• Transformers
• Switchgear
• UPS systems
• Standby generators
• Busway systems
• Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
• Static Transfer Switches (STS)
• Earthing and lightning protection systems
• Lighting and small power systems
• Building Management System (BMS) interfaces
• Electrical monitoring and SCADA systems

Construction Support

• Conduct site inspections and monitor installation quality.
• Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to resolve engineering and construction issues.
• Ensure works are executed safely and in accordance with project schedules.

Testing & Commissioning

• Develop and review Testing & Commissioning (T&C) plans and procedures.
• Coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and Integrated Factory Acceptance Testing (iFAT), where applicable.
• Support commissioning activities and witness functional performance testing.
• Ensure all commissioning documentation and as-built records are complete before project handover.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with clients, consultants, authorities, utility providers, and internal project teams.
• Participate in technical meetings and provide engineering solutions.
• Support project reporting and technical presentations.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
• Professional Engineer (PEng) registration is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 8–12 years of electrical engineering experience.
• At least 5 years working on Design & Build or EPC construction projects.
• Proven experience delivering Data Centre, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other mission-critical facilities.
• Experience working for a Main Contractor or EPC contractor is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction, testing, and commissioning processes.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of MV/LV electrical distribution systems.
• Experience with UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers, and critical power infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Tier III and Tier IV Data Centre design principles.
• Understanding of redundancy concepts including N, N+1, 2N, and 2(N+1).
• Ability to review electrical calculations, protection coordination studies, and single-line diagrams.
• Familiarity with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks is advantageous.
• Good knowledge of Malaysian Standards, IEC standards, and local authority requirements.

• Experience delivering hyperscale or colocation Data Centres.
• Exposure to clients such as Microsoft, AWS, Google, Oracle, or Equinix.
• Experience leading electrical engineering teams on projects valued above MYR100 million.
• Familiarity with LEED, Green Building Index (GBI), or sustainable design practices.
• Experience in integrated systems testing and mission-critical commissioning.
