About the role
The position serves as the vital technical bridge between creative design teams and external manufacturing partners. The primary goal is to transform visual merchandising concepts into high-quality, safe, and sustainable physical retail displays.
VM Engineering & Product Development
- Evaluate Feasibility: Assess design concepts and renderings to determine technical feasibility, structural integrity, and manufacturing requirements.
- Preserve Design Intent: Develop engineering solutions that protect the original design aesthetics while optimizing functionality, durability, and installation.
- Approve Technical Documentation: Review and sign off on engineering drawings, CAD files, technical specifications, and production documents.
Structural Engineering & Technical Validation
- Validate Prototypes: Lead physical prototype development, stress-testing, and validation activities to ensure long-term durability and in-store performance.
- Mitigate Technical Risks: Identify and resolve engineering risks, manufacturing challenges, and structural issues early in the development lifecycle.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Confirm all display structures comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and retailer requirements (including electrical/lighting).
Value Engineering & Cost Optimization
- Drive Value Engineering: Optimize product performance while aggressively reducing manufacturing, tooling, and material costs.
- Evaluate Alternatives: Source alternative materials, construction methods, and production processes to uncover cost-saving opportunities.
- Balance Cost & Brand Standards: Balance strict cost targets with aesthetic quality, sustainability, and premium brand standards.
Vendor Engineering Management
- Challenge Vendor Proposals: Partner closely with manufacturers to evaluate and challenge their engineering proposals for the best technical and commercial outcomes.
- Approve Pre-Production: Review, provide detailed feedback on, and approve vendor engineering submissions and pre-production samples.
- Manage Deliverables: Monitor vendor development timelines to ensure critical engineering milestones and production launches stay on schedule.
Quality & Production Readiness
- Verify Production Readiness: Conduct thorough engineering reviews during the prototype, pilot, and final production stages to ensure manufacturing readiness.
- Troubleshoot Quality Issues: Support root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for any quality or production defects.
- Enforce Standards: Maintain clear engineering standards, manufacturing best practices, and structured technical documentation across all projects.
Key Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in the display, VM, or retail fixture industry, preferably in prestige cosmetics.
- Strong knowledge of display construction and manufacturing processes, including injection molding, vacuum forming, acrylic and metal fabrication, decoration processes, and LED lighting.
- Ability to read and interpret technical/engineering drawings.
- Experience working with vendors to develop innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing business needs.
- Collaborative team player with strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
