JHC Consulting is currently advising a regional financial services group on matters of governance and strategic alignment. Our firm operates as a small practice of advisors who provide private counsel to chief executives and boards. We do not produce typical consulting materials like slide decks or presentations. Instead, we rely on the discipline of the written word to clarify complex problems. To support our current mandates, we are seeking a Junior Scrum Master to help manage the flow of our internal analysis and documentation. This is a full time position that is conducted entirely in a remote environment.
The Role
In this role, your primary objective is to maintain the rhythm of our advisory engagements. You will work closely with our principals to ensure that the process of reading, analysis, and drafting remains on schedule for our client in the financial services sector. Your day to day activities will involve tracking the progress of various memoranda from initial research to the final signed document. You will facilitate brief, directed meetings to identify any obstacles that might prevent an author from completing their analysis. Because we prioritize deep work and long periods of focus, your task is to minimize distractions for the team while ensuring that every mandate stays within its defined scope. You will also maintain our internal records and documentation, ensuring that every version of a memorandum is filed correctly for future reference.
What You Bring
We are looking for an individual with an entry level background in project management or agile methodologies who understands that structure serves the work, not the other way around. While you may have recently completed your studies or a certification, you must demonstrate a high degree of intellectual maturity. Writing is the primary tool of our trade, so you must possess excellent command of written English and the ability to summarize complex discussions into clear points. You should be familiar with the basic principles of Scrum but willing to adapt them to a professional services environment where the output is a document rather than a software feature. We value organizational discipline, a high level of discretion, and the ability to work independently. A basic understanding of corporate governance or the financial services industry is helpful but not required.
How We Work
At JHC Consulting, we believe that written argument produces sharper thinking than conversation. Every engagement results in a signed memorandum authored by a single principal. We do not believe in the typical ceremonies of management consulting; we believe in the clarity that comes from individual accountability. Our work is conducted with a high degree of scrutiny, and we often provide a dissenting read of internal corporate cases. This requires a working environment that values the courage to name uncomfortable truths and the patience to trace every claim back to a clear assumption. Your role is to support this process by ensuring that the operational framework of the project allows for this level of rigorous inquiry.
Working at JHC Consulting
This position is fully remote, allowing for a high degree of autonomy and flexibility in how you manage your day. We are a small, deliberate firm that values the privacy and focus of our staff. You will find that our culture is sparse and professional, focusing on the quality of the work rather than corporate socializing. The compensation for this role is paid and is designed to be competitive for the market and the level of responsibility involved. We provide an environment where entry level professionals can learn the rigors of high level advisory work by observing the lifecycle of complex mandates from the inside. You will be expected to manage your own time effectively and contribute to a culture of individual responsibility.
The work we do at JHC Consulting carries the name of the author at the foot of every page. This creates a standard of accountability that defines everything we produce. When we advise a regional financial services group or a board of directors, we are providing a record that will be held on file for years to come. We seek a Junior Scrum Master who respects the gravity of this responsibility and who can help us maintain the high standards of our practice through disciplined organization and a commitment to clear, written communication.
