Mechanical Technical Lead – Data Centres
Singapore — fully on-site
SGD 9,350–11,500 per month
Permanent position
Take a leading role in the technical development and assurance of mechanical design across major mission-critical projects in Singapore.
This is a hands-on, owner-side technical position covering design development, engineering standards, QA/QC, multidisciplinary coordination and project close-out — not simply a high-level drawing-review role.
About the role
You will lead the technical review and assurance of mechanical engineering systems throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with design consultants, contractors, vendors and the client’s programme leadership.
The role combines detailed engineering input, design coordination, technical assurance, system optimisation and project close-out.
You will actively contribute to the development of new mechanical systems, provide clear technical direction to delivery partners and help resolve issues affecting cost, programme, quality and operational performance.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and standardise mechanical engineering packages, specifications and design guidelines.
- Provide hands-on technical input into the development and detailed design of new mechanical systems.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications and design documentation using BIM 360, 3DEXPERIENCE and Google Workspace.
- Review and challenge designs for technical quality, coordination, cost, programme and operational performance.
- Ensure designs comply with client standards, engineering guidelines, Owner’s Project Requirements and design narratives.
- Lead QA/QC peer reviews using established checklists, trackers and review processes.
- Advise on the design, construction and operation of mechanical engineering systems.
- Identify improvements across technology adoption, energy efficiency, cost, buildability, delivery time and long-term performance.
- Identify and escalate technical or coordination issues affecting cost, programme or project delivery.
- Support defect rectification, punch-list closure, final inspections and formal project close-out.
- Provide clear technical direction during design and coordination meetings.
- Maintain detailed trackers covering issues, risks, mitigation actions and blocking items.
- Provide regular progress updates to the Technical Programme Manager and Technical Lead.
- Act as the mechanical engineering link between client teams, consultants, contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain and improve owner standards, specifications and technical documentation.
- Manage revision control, deliverable tracking and the final upload of approved documentation to the client’s document-management system.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical engineering experience within complex, high-value built environments.
- Proven experience in design development, detailed design review, technical assurance or engineering leadership.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems used within mission-critical facilities.
- Ability to interrogate designs, identify technical risks and communicate practical solutions.
- Experience coordinating consultants, contractors and vendors across multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience working across design, construction, operational readiness and project close-out stages.
- Strong written reporting, stakeholder-management and technical communication skills.
- Comfortable working fully on-site in Singapore.
Desirable background
- Direct experience delivering data-centre projects.
- Experience within hyperscale, mission-critical, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing or similarly resilient environments.
- Experience supporting mechanical commissioning, system handover and operational readiness.
- Knowledge of BIM 360, 3DEXPERIENCE, AODocs or comparable cloud-based design and document platforms.
- Experience working within an owner, developer, technical consultancy or major engineering contractor.
Best-fit candidate backgrounds
Likely backgrounds include owner-side technical teams, hyperscale operators, data-centre design consultancies, MEP engineering consultancies, mission-critical contractors and specialist commissioning organisations.
