About DayOne
Behind every app, every AI tool, every connected experience, there is a data center. DayOne builds them. In Malaysia, DayOne is already doing exactly that at scale. As Johor's largest LEED-certified data center operator, we run two campuses at Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park, at the heart of the SIJORI cross-border digital corridor connecting Singapore, Johor, and Batam. Backed by US$4.5B+ in Series C funding, we are operational, growing, and building the team to match.
About The Role
You'll lead the mechanical operations and maintenance function at DayOne's NTP campus in Johor Bahru — owning the performance, reliability, and compliance of all cooling, HVAC, liquid cooling, and fire suppression infrastructure on site. This is a hands-on leadership role with 24/7 accountability. You manage the team, own the maintenance program, act as the technical authority for complex mechanical issues, and contribute to strategic initiatives that shape how the facility performs long term.
Team Leadership
- Manage mechanical engineers and technicians on site, coordinate 24/7 shift coverage, and ensure seamless handovers across all operational periods.
- Mentor and develop team members through consistent technical guidance — not just oversight.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify capability gaps before they affect operational reliability.
Reliability and Maintenance
- Oversee the performance and reliability of all mechanical infrastructure including HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, liquid cooling systems, and fire suppression.
- Design and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs, coordinating with vendors and contractors to deliver upgrades with zero impact on live operations.
- Act as the technical lead for troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical issues across the facility.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all mechanical operations meet health, safety, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Maintain audit-ready records and documentation at all times across all mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with electrical, IT, and facilities teams to ensure the facility operates as one integrated, efficient system.
Strategic and Financial Support
- Contribute to budget planning and cost management activities to maintain operational efficiency across mechanical systems.
- Support the development of performance improvement initiatives tied to system reliability and business growth.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- 7 to 10 years in mechanical engineering with at least 3 to 5 years in a managerial role in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Deep technical knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, liquid cooling systems, and fire suppression infrastructure in a data center or mission-critical facility.
- Proven experience managing vendors and contractors for maintenance and upgrade works on live critical facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Fluent in English. Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is an advantage for local team and stakeholder engagement.
Soft Skills
- Leads technical teams with composure and authority in a high-stakes, always-on environment — resolves issues without needing escalation for every decision.
- Communicates mechanical system risks and technical issues clearly to facility leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
- Builds vendor and contractor relationships with enough credibility to hold them accountable to DayOne's operational standards.
Nice to Have
- Professional Engineer status or equivalent certification recognized in Malaysia.
- Prior experience in data center or mission-critical facility mechanical operations.
- Familiarity with BMS platforms and DCIM tools used in hyperscale facility management.
