About DayOne
Behind every app, every AI tool, every connected experience, there is a data center. DayOne builds them. In Malaysia, DayOne is already doing exactly that at scale. As Johor's largest LEED-certified data center operator, we run two campuses at Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park, at the heart of the SIJORI cross-border digital corridor connecting Singapore, Johor, and Batam. Backed by US$4.5B+ in Series C funding, we are operational, growing, and building the team to match.
About The Role
You'll own day-to-day operations across multiple data centers within the Johor Bahru cluster — accountable for uptime, team performance, compliance, and the operational standard that DayOne's SLAs are built on. This is a senior leadership role. You manage the shift teams, own the maintenance program, drive compliance across ISMS, SOC2, and PCI DSS, and support the Campus Director on strategic initiatives that shape how the cluster performs long term.
Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations across all data centers in the cluster, ensuring all systems and infrastructure maintain 100% uptime and full compliance with customer SLAs.
- Manage incident response, troubleshooting, and resolution — minimizing downtime and service disruption across the cluster.
- Track operational metrics, analyze performance data, and identify risks before they affect operations or client commitments.
- Implement and continuously improve operational policies, procedures, and best practices across all sites.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operations and technical staff across the cluster, building a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with shift teams to ensure seamless 24/7 coverage and effective handovers across all operational periods.
- Conduct regular training sessions and performance evaluations to strengthen team capability and accountability.
Maintenance and Vendor Management
- Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance across all equipment and systems, ensuring servicing meets manufacturer and DayOne standards.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for maintenance and upgrade works, delivering projects with minimal impact on live operations.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all cluster operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations and maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
- Maintain active compliance with site accreditations including ISMS, SOC2, and PCI DSS across all cluster sites.
Customer and Strategic Support
- Collaborate with the customer support team to deliver smart hands services for retail customers promptly and professionally.
- Support the Campus Director in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance cluster performance and support business growth.
- Contribute to budget planning and cost management to maintain operational efficiency across the cluster.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- 7 to 10 years of experience in data center operations with at least 3 to 5 years in a managerial role overseeing 24/7 operations.
- Strong technical knowledge of data center infrastructure including power systems, cooling, and network operations.
- Proven experience managing compliance frameworks including ISMS, SOC2, and PCI DSS in a live data center environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams across multiple sites or shifts simultaneously.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Fluent in English. Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is an advantage for stakeholder engagement in the local market.
Soft Skills
- Leads technical teams with enough authority and clarity that incidents are resolved without needing escalation to the Campus Director for every decision.
- Identifies operational risks early and communicates them with context — not just flags, but recommendations.
- Holds a high operational standard across the cluster without losing the ability to develop the people responsible for maintaining it.
Nice to Have
- Professional certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, or equivalent.
- Prior experience operating across multiple data center sites within a single cluster or campus environment.
- Familiarity with smart hands service delivery for retail colocation customers.
