Role Description The Engineer Intern role at UTM is a full-time, on-site position based in Sandakan. The intern will assist engineering teams with project planning, data collection, technical analysis, and preparation of reports and documentation. Daily tasks may include supporting field inspections, contributing to design reviews, updating project records, and complying with safety and quality standards. The role also involves collaborating with academic staff and professionals, participating in meetings, and learning to use relevant engineering tools and software. The intern is expected to show initiative, apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement in assigned projects.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in engineering principles and problem-solving, preferably in a relevant discipline (e.g., Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic proficiency with engineering software tools (such as CAD, simulation, or data analysis applications) and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse colleagues and stakeholders on-site.
  • Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow project workflows and safety procedures.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an engineering or technology-related degree program; prior internship or project experience is an advantage.
  • Motivation to develop professionally, openness to feedback, and interest in contributing to UTM’s innovation and research-driven environment.
