Backup Engineer

About the Role

One of our key clients is seeking an experienced Backup Engineer to join its Enterprise Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure to ensure high availability, business continuity, and data protection across mission-critical environments.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with enterprise backup technologies, storage infrastructure, disaster recovery, and backup operations within large-scale environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Backup Administration

• Manage and support enterprise backup environments using technologies such as Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, Cohesity, or Commvault.
• Monitor daily backup and restore operations to ensure successful completion.
• Investigate and resolve backup failures, performance issues, and operational incidents.
• Perform backup optimization, maintenance, and capacity planning.

Infrastructure Management

• Install, configure, and maintain Backup Servers, Media Servers, Master Servers, and Proxy Servers.
• Manage enterprise backup appliances and storage platforms.
• Support backup infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management.
• Ensure infrastructure meets performance, availability, and security requirements.

Storage & Data Protection

• Configure and administer backup storage appliances such as:
• Veritas Appliances
• Dell EMC Data Domain
• ExaGrid
• Support tape libraries and tape management processes.
• Implement and support object storage and tapeless backup technologies where applicable.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Support disaster recovery planning and recovery testing.
• Execute backup restoration procedures during incidents.
• Ensure Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are achieved.
• Participate in business continuity initiatives.

Database & Application Backup

• Configure and support backup solutions for enterprise databases including:
• Oracle
• Microsoft SQL Server
• IBM DB2
• Sybase
• Understand database backup strategies and replication technologies.

Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor backup infrastructure using enterprise monitoring and analytics tools.
• Produce operational reports, capacity reports, and health status reports.
• Perform trend analysis and recommend infrastructure improvements.

Documentation & Governance

• Develop and maintain:
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Technical documentation
• Operational runbooks
• Backup and recovery procedures
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices.

Project Delivery

• Support enterprise infrastructure projects involving backup and storage technologies.
• Participate in backup platform implementation and migration projects.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, database, cloud, and application teams.

Operational Support

• Provide Level 2/Level 3 operational support for backup services.
• Participate in on-call support and incident management when required.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues with minimal supervision.

Required Skills & ExperienceEssential Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in enterprise backup administration.
• Strong expertise in at least one of the following:
• Veritas NetBackup
• Veeam Backup & Replication
• Cohesity
• Commvault
• Experience managing large-scale enterprise backup environments.
• Strong understanding of backup architecture, backup lifecycle, and recovery processes.
• Experience with backup appliances such as Veritas Appliances, Dell EMC Data Domain, or ExaGrid.
• Experience configuring Backup Servers, Media Servers, Master Servers, and Proxy Servers.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
